DEP-Leavin' for bootcamp in April

This group is for N4M members that have a loved one leaving for bootcamp in April...I will leave the year open so that even future Deppers leaving in the month of April of any year can join...Lets share stories, information, concerns, and questions

Latest Activity: Jul 21, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of April (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have April ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in April, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Yep...Susan - you got "the call" (I'm here, I'm safe...) next comes "the box" which SHOULD arrive with in a week or so. *make sure your FEDEX people know they can drop the box off at your house without a signature, or you'll have to chase it down. And after "the box" you'll get "the letter" - this letter has all the info you need to know about PIR and your recruits address. It has the PIR date, the password for your parking passes, and other useful information. There are also 4 lines at the bottom of the page for you son to write a few things. Depending on your son's personality - this can be a happy or sad message! But either way - it will be a note from HIM.

Now, rest and do your best to get through the rest of this week. I think the first week was the hardest for most of us. It's when I kept seeing EVERYTHING that reminded me of him (my son) and I'd break out into tears at the least little thing.
We are ALL here for you!!!
Blessings and hugs,
~marilyn~

Susan- glad you got a call. That IS the "i'm here" one. Now you shouldn't expect another one for a couple of weeks. That's what I've been told.
My son told me on the phone too not to expect the box for a couple of weeks. I got it 3 days later. But it probably depends on several factors.

Marilyn,
I KNEW you would get something today! Great news. I only wish Jordan and paul were in the same div.

My son's plane to BC is leaving Raleigh at 6 PM...up, up, and away, and the adventure begins! Thanks to all of you who have made this time so much easier, smoother, and actually quite exciting! I appreciate you all! And I am really looking forward to knowing when his PIR date will be, and who from you will be there at the same one, too! Such a small world, once the internet is involved, isn't it? :-)

I just got the call with Jordan's info...
HE IS SHIP 07/DIV 197

Who else is in that group?!?!?

Looking forward to getting more of the answers for PIR (so I can begin the count down) and waiting to "THE BOX" and FORM LETTER.

Hope to have both in my hands today.
Blessings all,
~marilyn~

Hello Moms of guys leaving the nest,I should be an old hen at this.I am 70 years old,my husband also my oldest son have retired from the Army plus my 2nd son was in the Navy. Now this son that is going into the Navy tomorrow ,came along when I was 41 years old.We have been together durning my husband`s death and many, many trials in life.He is 29 years old has a wife and two children, and in a lot of ways it is harder to see him go than it was the others,But one thing for sure God can take care of him much better than I can! So I thank my God for sending him to me when He did,for being there to walk with me thur many diffcult places.I released him to his wife when they got married now I release him and them into God`s hands once again, thanking God for the beautiful family he has.Knowing from experince, how God takes care of them and brings them back to us!I am still reaping the bennfits of miltary retirement.God Bless All of you going thru this.I will be praying for all of you.Luke`s Mom

i just called josh's recruiter to see if he had the address. he said he didnt have his computer at the office with him so he would have to look it up this evening and call me back. ????? now, when i was there on tuesday...there were computers on every desk. hmmm. guess i'm going to the office in a few minutes and see if my pleasant presence sitting in his office can refresh his memory on how to turn on a desk top computer. i have three very small children with me... all under three. that should do it. lol

good monday morning to all! looks like there are a few more new moms here in the last couple of days...keep coming back!! this place helps me more then anything in the world has so far...evryone here understands EXACTLY what your going through and how you feel. if you need to vent or cry or laugh...whatever evryone understands. i didnt go to church yesterday because i just couldnt handle people asking about josh just yet. they always talk to me about him leaving like i shouldnt be sad. "oh he will be fine...time to cut the cord haha...oh momma he's not a kid anymore". well i know this but it still is very hard to let them go. its not like college where they get to come home when they want and call when they want...its different. but if you havent been there you just dont get it. we have been there, we are there, and we understand. hope everyone has a good day.
