Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of December (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have December ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in December, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Sets New Physical Fitness Standard to Start Boot Camp. "The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes seven seconds for female recruits."

Ok guys, your killing me here, LOL LOL Just when I think ok I can do this, I see you alls post and I cant help but let the tears out! ;( :( But you are all where I am in honesty. So proud and cant wait to brag when I get that sailor call but yet so empty????? Not sure what word to use but I know it will be a missing feeling. Today he and I went to the mall and he bought Christmas gifts for his sisters and brother. Then we went to lunch. It was so nice just him and I right now. My husband said it is finally hitting him too. He got them Build-a-Bears that are wearing the NAVY uniform. They are all high school and middle school but he made the birth certificates with their nicknames they have for each other so each bear will be personal to each of them. I about cried watching him take pride in each Bear. Oh man I am becoming a waterfall here.

We did go and get our little NAVY tree today.. We found a gold one at walmart for only $8.00 and lights are already on it, bought gold balls then will print small Navy pics to put around it. I have a little US Flag I am going to put as the tree topper. We will use this as the center piece at his party this Saturday.

Well moms the rollercoaster of emotions that you are feeling is totally normal and so is the wide range of emotions that your deppers are expressing. You will have good days and bad days.. You may cry more often and feel more stressed. Your depper may also seem more emotional or more tightly wound...or may seem like he or she has the world by the tail...trust me two weeks of boot camp is the great equalizer...and suddenly even the tough ones can't wait to hear from their families are just hoping that mom has written those letters. I have had many moms worry to me that their sons or daughters told them not to write because they didn't want anyone to think they were weak or perhaps there were harsh words spoken and yet when that form letter arrived with just four lines available to write inevitably the first words were I love you and please write often...lol....so I always tell parents to try and overlook the small stuff and realize that your kids are trying to acheive independence too and it is tough for them...and know this too shall pass...they will find a balance and boot camp has a way of bringing the important relationships in a family back into focus...I hope you like the commandments that Daysleeper posted...they are very conservative...but the are a conglomeration of much of what has gotten various recruits in trouble...you never know who your recruits RDCs are going to be so my suggestion to folks is always air on the side of caution in the first few weeks until your recruit lets you know what is acceptable.

However, sorry mdub...it is never okay to send cookies and things. The navy really puts them on a diet of healthy food to make them lean and mean...my son who wasn't over weight lost 40 lbs. he is 6 foot and 149 lbs now...desserts were a treat on Sunday...that was a training decision made by the division...so care packages containing goodies....were consumed at leisure by the RDCs while recruits did thes nasty 8 count exercises that they despised until the RDCs had eaten every crumb....don't do it....lol

My son Cody ships on December 13 from Dallas TX. Does anyone know what the recruits will be doing on Christmas Day? Can we send them cookies or anything or just a letter?

If anyone finds a cool Navy ornament, please let me know ... I will tell you that there is a very cool store at a mall near GL that specializes in Chicago and military gifts. I told my daughter I would be spending quite a bit of money there --- AFTER she gets through BS21 and graduates! It's worth checking out --- when we went up a few months ago, my daughter bought a Navy Mom hoodie for me and a Navy Dad one for her dad.

As for the POA -- do I need to do something other than have it drawn up by an attorney? I have one already -- but what's this about the register of deeds?

Because we have to drive all the way back for my daughter to ship, it will just be me and her at the swearing in ... although a friend of hers that is a high school DEPper also wants to go ... we'll see if she can get off school.

She's been singing "Never Grow Up" by Taylor Swift ... I'm thinking she's more scared than she's letting on ....

MountainMama - I know how you feel. I told my boss today I probably will be leaving early each day up until my son leaves next week, at least those days my son is home and wants to do something. Spending as much time with him as he can stand :)

Only 14 days before shipping out! I'm trying to spend as much quality time as possible. It's hard going to work everyday because I'd rather be home with him. I might as well be home, cause I can't concentrate at work. It's good to be able to share with other moms who are feeling the same way.

BS21 usually happens near the end of the 7th week of training, but can fall at the end of the 6th or or beginning of the 8th week.
