Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of February (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have February ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in February, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

There were 9 kids sworn in with my son. 2 were Navy, 1 Air Force, the rest Army. There were only 2 families in attendance. Might give perspective for some.

My son was supposed to go to hotel today...Meps tomorrow but he just got a call from hs recruiter that Ft. Meade is closed because of the 3 ft snow and the earliest he'll leave is Thursday. He's frustrated. We are supposed to get more snow tomorrow so who knows when he will out of here.

Ann...I went to my daughter, Kayla's swearing in ceremony this past Wednesday. She went to MEPS around 5:30 and I got there around 7:30. She did everything she had to do while I was there and I would see her passing back and forth. She didn't swear in until around 10:25 am. I could have stayed, ate lunch with her and visited until the bus arrived, but I cut out of there as soon as I watched her swearing in. I could NOT watch her get on the bus. She was fine with that too....she kept her cell phone and actually used it once she got to GL to call home to tell me she was there.

Gayle- Thank you. Yes these hardships will make me stronger.

Kathy- Thank you. I know they are both watching over me now. I will make them very proud of me. And keep in them in my heart always.

Kim- Thanks for the hug : )

Janice- I really was needing strength, they will be giving me a lot of that. That brings me comfort knowing that she’s with him & God now. Being a strong gets tough sometimes, but I managed. God Bless you as well.

Linn- Thank you. Their memories will give me strength. They were great people. And I hope I can live up to them.

Shef’s Mom- Thank you. I’m praying for your family. And I hope that your son will be around. I prayed to God, asking him to not let me be in basic if she goes. And I wasn’t, so I am grateful.

Thank you Craigs mom....I have written her a couple of lettters and may go ahead and send the first one that I mailed but may wait to be sure. Her recruiter did not actually put her ship number on the mailing address so I looked at all the addresses listed. The ship that is on the paper he gave me is ship 3 but the address he wrote down is ship 6. So, I am just afraid she wouldn't get it at all. It really does not have much written on it so I am not worried if that one gets lost or sent back. I just want her to have something in the mail for her. I was hoping to have something by the first of the week so I could mail her a Valentine Card. She L O V E S cards...I just don't want to overwhelm her with too much and she don't have enough room. I ended up mailing my son a bigger envelope that he could put some of his letters/cards back into it and mail them back home if he needed to. He did this a couple of times and once he left for sub school at the time I mailed them back to him so he had them all.
The other thing I did was instead of mailing actual photo's, I printed several photo's on paper so he could just open the paper up and look at them. She remembered this and asked me to do the same thing. She gets a new little cousin this Friday so that will be the first pictures I mail to her!

Kim--Glad Katie is all excited about the people she is meeting! Awww...sweet she wrote you something to read after she was gone. I wrote Kayla a little encouragement letter and stuck it in her pocket after her swearing in ceremony so she could read it on the plane there. What day did Katie arrive at BC? Kayla got there on the night of the 3rd.

Shef's mom....I hope you guys have a lot of fun at his party! I know it will be great...a couple of people on here made the one we gave Kayla encouraging....I was worried it wouldn't go well but it actually was a lot of fun! I know she felt a lot of love...

My daughters recruiter gave me the printout of her mailing address...well sort of. I don't think it is the right address actually. From what i can read he wrote down one address and when i look up her boat information it is showing a different address...I may have to wait until I get the letter in the mail now to know for sure. I was hoping to get her a letter in the mail tomorrow....now I feel kind of stuck

megwoo - you can reach your boyfriend through the Red Cross. Call 1-877-272-7337 if you know his ship and division number. If you don't, call his recruiter.

Kelly, so sorry for your loss. Now both your grandparents will be watching over you as you go forward. Find strength in their memories and love. My Dad died in 1981. In my son's picture as he went to boot camp, he has my father's one sided smile. It's heart warming to see the resemblance to grandfather that never knew him. His grandfather is watching over him. You grandparents are part of you and will bring you comfort.

We didn't think the swearing in was important. However, I guess it all depends on your own family. Our kid has said he's going to do so many things and not followed through that WE think the graduation is the most important thing! With our kid, he's got intermittent asthma, so we're wondering if he'll make it through bootcamp. So, that's why for us the swearing in wasn't all that important.
We WILL be at graduation!! And, for us school isn't a problem since we homeschool LOL!
