Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of February (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have February ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in February, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I will Darlinme. It's going to be tough, but she is in a better place. My grandfather passed 8 months ago. And after he passed she became very depressed & sad. Her health began to fail. They were together for over 50 yrs. So she has gone to be with him.

When my son Eric joined the Navy, I was not told we could see him swearing in. I was lucky enough to be at MEPS the day she signed her papers to join as well as yesterday before she left for BC so I was able to see her swear in both times. Each was just as emotional.
I think it is more important to see the graduation. There is nothing like the rush of emotions you feel when they first march into that building!
I have cried as well but not because I am sad either...I am THRILLED she is there and starting a great life...I am happy she won't be home for a while because that means she is starting a life of her own and she is growing up!

My daughter Kayla actually packed most of her room up before she left. She had different boxes for different things that she would want mailed to her as she could have them. We did leave a few things in her room but she wanted her room to be used for other things as long as it was still "her" room. I liked the idea of her packing up what clothes and such she would want because that left less for me to try to find later on. So, for now...she has a big tub of things in her room and her dresser still has clothes in it for me to look through if I need to later. I don't think she really cared if her room was used for something else so that was easier for me to deal with...

Yes, we know more than the soldiers and I even think more that the recruiters are telling them. When my son first enlisted, the recruiter gave me this web site. After I told my son things I learned here, the recruiter told him to tell me to stop looking at it. He told my son the peanut butter shot was penicillian and that he'd only need it if he got sick. I did send my son's immunization records with him, they requested it twice and he made sure it was in the folder they sent to BC with him (along with his PT and drug testing results). I figured I'd just wait and see if he got the other shot, no sense giveing him something more to fret over.

It's interesting how many are trying to get their sailors to clean their rooms before they leave. Mine is an absolute slob. It didn't help that the washer needed repairs 3 days before he left. I did pull the dirty dishes from his room and will pick up and wash about 6 loads of clothes. He even left his computer on. I think it was simply far too difficult emothionally for him to pack it up. He wanted to feel that he was coming back. He's enlisted for 8 years (last 2 inactive) so I strongly doubt it will be for anything more than just a liberty leave. It's weird, but I kind of like the 'normallicy' of cleaning up after him. Makes feel like he's closer some how. I will be packing things and covert his room to a guest room. But I know it'll still be there if and when he gets a chance to come home. Far too many really weird emotions going through me now.

Went to MEPS yesterday morning and saw Jake's final swearing in. Got a few pcitures. Cried (a lot). Got the call that he arrived safet at GL about 8:30 last night. Felt like he had certain things he had to say, not quite a script but close.
