Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

AjTetrick, I heard that knowing the ranks REALLY helps out!  We also made sure we had a Medical Power of attorney along with being a cosigner on his banking information. We also got him a passport, he won't need it for boot but may need it if he is ever in a different country and needs to fly home commercially.

My daughter left on the 11th, still no letter yet.

I am leaving to Meps the 29th then on to the great lakes the 30th. Besides the sailors creed and general orders what are some things I should know or do in the last week before I leave? Thanks for your help!

Yeah...have had "wierder" stuff too...makes me want to do this when I am helping to form PIR groups...Pulling Hair Out...LOL...that's why I am cautious at times.

RTC will post the actual details for PIR 03/09/2012 on Monday. Recruits in this TG have been reported arriving as early as 01/10/2012. Depending on the size of this group and the Fed Holiday on the 16th my "guestimate" is it will also include some that arrived through until the 17th...but don't qoute me on that!

Recruits can arrive the same day and be in different PIR groups. I have even had the odd one or two...or three be on hold for a week or two. Some have been put in the PIR group "behind" them because that TG needed just a few more to fill it.

That being said...those that have had Recruits arrive between 01/18/2012 through to probably...oh...ummm...the 24th...be thinking about wanting to start the next PIR group. It's fun! Watch for your form letter and your recruiter MAY have some info as far as the address within 72 hours of your recruit arriving at Great Lakes.

We won't know the cut off as far as divisions until Monday. Your recruit will not send their form letter home with all the pertinent info until "P" processing days are over. They do this on Week1 Day1 of Training.

My recruit is doing much better, thanks for the thoughts and prayers.  Still waiting for the final decision from the doctors about his return, but he's feeling much better.

Comment by FireTeamLeaderWife aka FTLW on January 20, 2012 at 11:44pm

Yes...I'm sorry...been sick and had to go to a retirement out at base today (husbands co-worker)...then crashed!

I think "my" mom has her info now so I will contact her and make sure she is still a go for starting the 03/09/2012 group. So hopefully we should have it up and running in the next couple of days!

The details for this next TG (Training Group), number of divisions etc. will be posted on the RTC website on Monday. We then can look forward to starting the NEXT TG after that for those that have been arriving within the last couple of days and into the first day or two next week.

NOTE - Recruits can arrive the same day and have different PIR dates....there is no guarantees...I do some "guestimating" as far as forming PIR groups...but usually wait for some kind of confirmation on the ship/div.

Thank you everyone for your patience!

dhagar - Prayers for your son and that he may continue on...it sounds like he called you himself?

Comment by Doreen-ProudNavyMom on January 20, 2012 at 11:21pm

dhagar - how did you find out about your son today if you didn't get a call from someone of authority at GL?

Comment by mom2kandq on January 20, 2012 at 11:18pm

dhagar, I never did remember my seizure except for two small snippets - neither of which were during the actual seizure - so your son may never know for sure what happened.  However, according to my husband and children, I am lucky not to remember - they've tried to forget what they witnessed for almost 11 years.  Not trying to scare you but to let you know that the memory loss is normal and, I am sure, a good thing.

I will continue to send prayers.  Please keep us posted on what the doctors say.
