Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Mine left yesterday. Saw him get sworn in. Called when he landed in Chicago then again at 2:30am from GL.
hip hip hooray! took my sailor to Milwaukee today! We are soooooo excited for this adventure! Tomorrow he goes to MEPS and then off to Great Lakes! Right now we are chillng in our motel room waiting to meet up a cousin of mine and then to take him to his motel for his 10pm curfew. 4:30 comes early tomorrow morning and he almost fainted when Chief Petty Officer--- told him that! LOL!
How are we all doing? I know some of you have sent your Recruits off to RTC!
Hi cathie, my son leaves on January 5 and it is also a new experience for us. I'm planning on taking to my bed with a box of tissues all day Thursday! Anyway, we had his party this past Sunday and the one idea I stole from someone on this site is to have small pieces of paper (postcard size) with pens and asked people to write a note of encouragement. I'll mail them in to my son a few at a time, so that he gets lots of mail. Everyone at the party seemed to think that was a good idea. We'll see what he thinks! Good luck...
Hello!
I'm not really sure how this works. I wrote a comment this morning and it doesnt seem to show on the forum so I hope I am not repeating myself. I have a son leaving for boot camp on January 30th, 2012. This is a very new experince me and my family and it is all I can think about these days! My son is ready and cant wait to leave. Are there any other moms out there who have a son or daughter leaving on the 30th? Also, I am planning a going away party for him for this weekend and welcome any unique ideas for the party. I look forward to meeting other mothers and gettting support with the hopes that someday I can give support. :)
Inovell!! Hello! I knew the name sounded familiar! My son was 11/180! He just got home from Seabee school...had to change rates...so was gone longer. He is a reservist.
I've stayed on the site and help on the PIR groups...I also get the new ones going each week...so I will be recruiting for the next group leader for the next PIR group coming up...will post on that soon.
QUICK NOTE on that...RTC website updates on Mondays (will be tomorrow this week because of the Fed holiday). There is probably no PIR on the 24th of FEB unless they "push" this weeks recruits...I don't really see them doing that because that would be a VERY short BC...barely past 7 weeks.
But, I don't do this with anything military .
Looking forward to meeting all of you...Please read through JessicaB's post (scroll back) and I am sure Inovell will be a wealth of info and support!
Welcome Inovell....My daughter is leaving on the 24th of this month. She lives in Austin TX and we are from SC, so the weather change will be a tough one for her as well.....I am so happy I found this site, as it has been so helpful for me. Have a great night, Micki
Hello everyone. My older son is leaving for GL today and I'm looking forward to meeting all of the other moms and family members with recruits in GL in the middle of winter :) I am in Wisconsin but my son is coming from Arizona.
I am a Navy vet myself and my younger son just graduated bootcamp in May 2010 and is stationed in San Diego.
I am already excited to hear everyone's stories and find out when PIR will be.
Welcome to everyone!
