Hi there,

My son Luke was just sworn in yesterday at MEPS. He has contracted for an IT job. Luke is 18 and just finished high school last June. He leaves for BC on June 5 and is so very excited. I am a single mom and he is my only child so while I am very very proud of him, and happy to see him start his journey into adult life, I am also waiting for this to all hit me emotionally! My father was Navy in WWII but I never knew him as a military man and I know nothing about being a military family/mom! I imagine I will fall apart the day he leaves for BC, but as of now, I am merely enjoying the process with him! I look forward to learning more about what is ahead for my son and making some contacts on this great website!

Congrats, Lori! My son, Dennis, leaves June 5th also. He is contracted for advanced electronics, submarines. We are all quite excited for him. He just turned 21 in October, and he and his friend finally realized they had to do something, stagnating in part time jobs was not cutting it. He is stoked and wants to leave yesterday, but June doesn't seem so far away now! My father was Navy, as was my husband.

Peace,

Annette

I see you have joined Sub Moms; sometime between now and the end of BC, join SECF - ET & FT & STS and GROTON, CT. SUBSCHOOL & "A" SCHOOL MOMS, The Rating Information Card at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/secf.pdf will give you more information. He'll find out his rating in BC based on the needs of the Navy at the time.

Thanks!

You are very welcome.

Congrats to all of you!  It's going to be a time of learning for all of us I think.  None of my family were military, so this is all very new to me.  Trying to learn all I can.  My son leaves for bootcamp June 26th and will be training for hull maintenance tech.  He graduates from HS in May and turns 18 on June 9.  It's a busy time for us, but that may be a good thing to keep my mind off him leaving.

We will all have to keep in touch and support each other, and learn together.  Look forward to getting to know all of you better.

Cindy

Where will your daughter fly out of? Patrick will leave from Shreveport.

I'm right there with ya! I'm also a single parent. My son leaves June 5th. I'm so proud and excited for him! I'm a former Air Force wife, daughter of a Navy brat, a Navy mother-in-law and now a Navy Mom. (that's a lot of hats! lol)

My son Patrick leaves for BC June 5. He is very excited and I am excited for him. But....I lost my husband in January and as if things weren't weird enough lately, I will have something else to adjust to. Don't get me wrong, I am very proud of Patrick, and so was his dad. We knew this was a good thing. I think I will be really sad at first, that's all. Glad to know there is a great support group out there!!!!

My son, Josh leaves the same day and is doing IT also! I have met one other mom who's son is in the same exact group also!

My son, Josh, leaves June 26, and is IT as well! Best of luck to all our future sailors!

For all of you with future Sailors who will go to "A" School for the IT rating, "A" School is in Corry Station, FL at the Center for Information Dominance (CID), so sometime between now and the end of BC, join, or at least check out, Sailors at Corry Station holding or in school, Sailors In Pensacola, FL For A School....Corry Station too!!, Corry Station IT Moms, IT A Schoolers, and INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN - IT, ITOF, IT-ATF, ITS. The Information Rating Card for IT is at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/it.pdf.

Not sure why I can't turn this pic around! Anyway, Dennis enjoying Cincinnati style chili last night, one of his food requests before he left, and his last dinner at home. He is finishing up packing while hubby is getting room ready for painting for youngest daughter to move in. His best friend since 1st grade came for breakfast this morning, waffles and bacon. At 1345 we take him down the road to recruiter's. RTC then Groton, CT for sub school.
