Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

If my son leaves June 13th what date can I expect to find out when his graduation would be. Would love to make plans early to make it there to see him graduate?

JessicaB-Sailor Mom,

Thanks for putting all of this information in one place.  I am just starting to realize how soon my son is leaving, June 8th, and how little time is left.  I am always giving him information but perhaps having it all orgainized like this will help him understand how important being prepared will be.

I found this on the Pensacola website.  Have any of your recruits heading towards Pensacola for A School heard that they could take care of two classes prior to BC?

ATT and AWAT Courses

Apprentice Technical Training and Aviation Warfare Apprentice Training are two additional course that you sailor may need to complete prior to classing up in his/her technical A-school class.  The time it takes to complete these courses
are not included in the number of days or months quoted for A-school.  You sailor will not be seated (classed up) into A-school until the preliminary courses are completed.

ATT is required by all sailors and is taught online.  The Navy has recently decided to permit those delayed entry participants (DEP) to take this course on line prior to entering boot camp.  These new sailors are coming to the schoolhouse almost a full 25 days ahead of their shipmates.

AWAT is comprised of self-paced, Interactive Courseware (ICW) which allows each student individual control of the information delivery rate.  This course is required of all Aviation ratings.  With 20 classrooms and 30 students per class, AWAT has a capacity of 600 students weekly. The course is designed to be completed in a 33-hour period, which includes 17.5 hours of AWAT and 16.5 hours of basic corrosion control training.

If you sailor wants to get moving fast, tell them to jump at the opportunity to get into these online classes.

Scottsmom,

Welcome!  There are several good sites on N4M to get information from.  Check them all out!  My son also leaves the 21st.  He going in to be a Nuke.

Scottsmom, I know how you feel. My son leaves June 8th and it is getting very real now.  I have learned so much from N4Ms that I find myself telling my son what to expect and what to look out for - he just stares at me and walks away.  You would think that after 27 years he would know that I need all information I can get about everything and I have to tell it all to him.

Hello all,

My son will be leaving for BC on June 21, 2011.  I'm excited for him but still tear up when I think of him leaving.  He's going in as a CTI.  The information on this site has been very informative.  My son thinks it's weird that I know more than him about what to expect but thats how I am. I look forward to getting to know everyone in the group.

Just called the Y. Military must be active duty and have a letter from their commanding officer to use their services. Too bad for us.

Concerning swimming...I don't believe DEP'ers get an ID...or do they? My son's recruiter said there are no YMCA privileges while in DEP only after they get through basic training. If someone knows differently please let me know. In the meantime I will call our local Y.

Second post for me.  This site is a little slow so hopefully we'll pick up the pace.  :)  I spend a lot of time haunting the Boot Camp Moms site and have learned a great deal about what to expect.  My husband joined the Navy when we were engaged, but having a child join is a different experience.  I am MUCH more at ease with his choice after being directed to N4M by his recruiter.  Thanks all!!!
