Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

This is also my first post and I agree with amberrose, I feel so much better knowing what to expect. My son will graduate in June; he is only 17. He leaves June 15th. He is my oldest so this is difficult. I strongly encourage all moms and wives to purchase a copy of "The Bluejacket's Manual". The sailors will get one in basic training but it's so informative and answers most questions you may have about the Navy. It's a resource guide that you will refer to throughout their career. Used copies are available on Amazon.

This entire experience is bittersweet but the driving force for me is just knowing how he will thrive in a military environment. My cousin is a retired chief and he went in with my son to the detailer and was able to get him the same job rate that he retired as. So now I know exactly what he will be doing. It's very reassuring.

Looking forward to learning and sharing.

Good morning!  This is my first post since joining NavyforMoms, and I just wanted to introduce myself to the group.  My fiance is currently a DEP, and leaving for basic training in June, 2011.  I am very excited about this exciting opportunity for the both of us.  Thank you all for your words of wisdom, they are definitely very much appreciated!  Reading through this forum has taken a lot of the anxiety and the "what if's" about the next step.  Thank you everyone, and I am looking forward to joining more groups, getting to know everyone.

Hi all this is my first post since recently joining. I have learned so much from all your posts and have told or warned my son about it all. He is due to leave for boot camp June 21, 2011. He is going to be a Mineman. I was wondering if anyone here has a mineman and if so I would love to know like if they are land based or on a ship and any other info they can tell me. Thanks

Ladies, one other thought for your recruit to take with them to BC is a cell phone.  Don't think I'm crazy, but if they take it with them, they can communicate by text while in route and then when they arrive they can call you with their own cell phone.  This way they also won't have to wait in line for the phones at BC.  All they have to do after that phone call is take the battery out of their cell phone and put the cell phone and battery inside their shoe or sock, in the box to be sent home.  My sailor did this and I was able to communicate with him at the airport before his flight, at the airport in IL, and also while he at dinner before arriving at GL.  It was awesome!

Hi all.  My son just signed his contract this past weekend and is scheduled to leave June 8, 2011.  N4M was recommended by his recruiter and I'm incredibly grateful to all who have shared their experiences on the various groups/forums!

laura  I was wondering if I had the righ t person or not.  But if you still have a strong heart for the service, you should go for it.  It's wonderful for anyone that wants to help our country.            BEST OF LUCK!!!
