Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

TitanMom: Hang in there....these first 2 weeks will be rough for you (and him), but it gets better for both of you after that. Stay on the N4M's site for support! Make sure you are on boot camp moms too and then join your PIR group once you get the form letter and know what it is. That first real letter or phone call will make you do the HAPPY DANCE and sure will put that smile back on your face. Good luck!

AlabamaNavyMom: Yes, start writing. But when the form letter comes, check the address your son wrote on there and make sure it is the same as the recruiter's address. The form letter is the correct one should they be different. He will still get your letters, but it takes a bit longer for them to track him down.

Tasmyn: HI! So he's in the possession of the US Navy, huh? WOW. That is quite a powerful statement, but should give you relief that he is taken care of, provided for, and safe! You are "off duty" for a while...well, you will still need to pray, write tons of letters, and give lots and lots of support and encouragement! Of course! Same for you, SusanA!

Boot Camp Moms group now for any of you who are not already on it!

My son went to bootcamp Jun 23 and I got his ship and div numbers today from the recruiter - time to send those letters!

Spent the day at MEPS with my son, he left for the airport at 1:10pm. Im gonna move over to the boot camp for moms and comment on there untill I get his PIR date. Waiting on my "i'm here 30 sec phone call". Not excited about getting the "kid n the box though". but can't wait for the form letter ( it may b the only one I get, as my son hate to write, but I hope he changes his mind and does end up writing me). Now I'm just gonna do the Navy thing "hurry up and wait".

my daughter did not have alot of time either before she left...little under 4wks...she had enough time to stop working, hang with friends and spend some time with her daughter

SOBE: I didn't realize that your son had such a short wait to enter the Navy. That's GOOD! Mine waited 10 months. But at least he waited exactly what they told him....not sooner, not later. But for your son to only wait a little over a month....I rarely read of that on the posts. So you didn't even have time to get nervous! :-)

pritchett: go to GROUPS and type in the box: PIR 8/6/2010
This is your PIR group. Join the group and you will find other moms on there with the same ship/div #.

We droped off our son at the recruiter today (he took him to the hotel). The whole family got together for lunch to say our goodbyes. He'll leave from the nashville mepps 2 morrow. I'll be there first thing in the morning, so I can spend as much time with him as I can and see him off, on what is going to be a big adventure for us both. Only cried a little!

pritchett1 - sounds like your recruit has PIR on 8/6. Have you jointed that group yet? Go to Groups, then click all groups and type PIR 8/6/2010 in the search box. You will find lots of support there. You can look for (or start) a discussion on that groups page for your recruits division. But PIR groups are the way to go, all divisions graduating on the same day go through the same things at the same times - you'll get a lot of support there.
Suggestion to those whose Deppers are now Recruits: Update your user id (under settings on "my page") to show ship#, div# and PIR date. If you can't fit it all, skip the ship number (that just identifies the building they are in). Division and PIR are whats important. It's easier for others to spot you that way!

deener: If it helps, just know that my son brought up going into the service out of the blue, then signed up 3 weeks later, then was told that bc (boot camp) started 4 1/2 weeks later. I had no time to even learn what a DEP was - and I didn't know about this site either. We are here to cry with you, laugh with you and anything else you need. Get on Boot Camp Mom's group as soon as you can! And hang in there. You will find diannep there, she is my favorite person on this entire site!!!

Comment by diannep on June 26, 2010 at 8:13pm
deener: This site takes some practice, but you'll get it. Now...since he is leaving...you need to join boot camp moms group if you haven't already. You will make friends on this site for sure. Stay on boot camp moms because there will be lots of info for you on there. You will get his form letter in about 2 weeks with his grad info and ship/div #'s and PIR date. Once you have the PIR date, join that group too. That is where you will meet lots of moms like you with kids in the same ship.
You will find that sending a child to the military is VERY different from sending one to college. You can stay in contact with them in college....not so much in boot camp! But we are all here to support each other! Some, like me, SOBE, and a few others, have dropped back into these groups to help...even though our sailors are long out of bc.
