Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

This is my last weekend with my son before he ships off to GL on the 28th. We went to eat at I-hop tonight because he wanted b-fest for dinner. I started to tear up just a little as i saw him walk to my car in the rain while I paid the bill. I think the tears r gonna flow come monday, even as i write this I'm getting a little choked up. omg what am I gonna do, he's been mine for 18 years to raise and now I have to find some way to let him go. This is going to b hard!

Came home to find a letter in the mail from Jarred today and it was wonderful. One of the things he mentioned was how great it was to have gotten cards and letters from me and from his Grandmom, so be sure and start writing as soon as you get an address. He sounds like he is doing good, he is in ship 4 div 817. Can't wait for first phone call from him to hear his voice. It's been hard adjusting to him being gone, but he sounded in good spirits.

I got it, I got it!!! I finally got the form letter. His ship is 14 division 272. Wrong from what his recruiter said. Hope he get the letters I have written and mailed already. PIT date is Augusts 13. I am so happy to have heard something. Said he was fine but it is rough but I am fine. Doing laundry for 88 people and it stinks. I bet he isn’t leaving that in the dryer for days. Now I can start making reservation. Can’t wait feels like Christmas. Just 7 weeks from today. Hopefully it will go fast. Sold his car today so glad I had the POA. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

Note on "Kid in a box" and "Form Letter" arrival times: Once your recruit arrives in GL (Great Lakes), they can use their cell phone for a bit, but it will be sent back in the "kid box" along with the clothes they were wearing. They can keep their wallets, a little cash, debit/credit card and drivers license. Be sure they have a phone card to make the "I'm here" call the night they arrive at bc. Otherwise, they need to borrow one or call home collect. My son was able to keep the pictures in his wallet too.

The box is shipped via Fed EX, but it takes anywhere from 5 - 9 days to arrive. We got our box exactly one week from the date he left. We got the "form letter" two days later (don't lose it, lots of good info), then our first real letter from him a day later. Always remember that each recruits experience is unique, but there are a lot of norms you can count on!

Hello DEP moms! I made a promise to "pay it forward" once my son graduated from boot camp. I have been on the Boot Camp Moms group, but it just occurred to me that some of the frustrations they are encountering could of been eased if they knew things before their recruit left. And if a recruit knows a few things, it will make it easier on them as well.

I am not an expert, just a mom who rode the emotional roller coaster of bc and made it to PIR (Pass In Review graduation) alive - although with more gray hair!

I do have a lot of good info regarding Grad & Go's (those who leave boot camp before PIR weekend is even over) and we have a group for those folks. Click on the hyperlink (blue underlined words) to access it. Grad & Go Info

toc722: The form letter has all of the graduation info in it, other Navy info, and he will have written in his ship/div #'s, his address, and his PIR date. Also 4 lines of his own words about anything. It usually comes to you within the first 2 weeks after he leaves, right after you get his "box". Some get the box in just 3 days...mine took about a week. You should have it soon!

Still no LETTER!!! I couldn't wait I called his recruiter on his cell wasn't in the office would call me back that was at 9:00 this morning. At 4:15 I called again didn't answer left a message. I guess he feel he has done his part. I bet I will be the last one to get the letter. This is killing me. I want to hear something from him.

My daughter left for boot camp on June 22nd and it was absolutley the hardest thing to do in my life. We had two years to prepare, as she decided to join her junior year of high school. She changed jobs and that gave us an additional year but I don't think anything can prepare a mom's heart for letting go and knowing that the relationship you once held so precious will be forever changed. Not that it is a bad thing, just emotionally hard. I know she is in Great Lakes but other than that, no clue what is happening. I pray she is ok and doing well. We miss her so much

Kyle: My son said he was doing fine. He said it is just like you see it on TV. They start at you as soon as you get off the bus. He said he hadn't started to work out as for as exercises yet because he hadn't taken his shots. Although he said he look forward to doing that. He worked out at the gym everyday when he was home. I'm sure this will be different (smile).

I know you are going to get your letter soon. The wait is something else, but it does make you feel better to have some type of communicate.
