Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

RNnavywife: Unforunately "LIFE" is about us paying for others' mistakes and choices, don't you think? Metal detectors everywhere, surveillance cameras, and look at what we go through just to fly on a plane now? But what they are teaching them in bc by punishing them all is the importance of "teamwork." Crucial to our military, as you can imagine. It is amazing how these "slackers" will become team members eventually, but it may take a while! Many will "test the system" and see what they can get away with. It doesn't take them long to realize that they don't get away with anything! :-)

Ladies: No time to write notes (nor paper!) to put in the boxes...unless they did it on the airplane/bus to bc and put it in. They may have time to write on the FLAPS of the box, but probably didn't think of it. Some do though.

Wow nikosmom, that's awesome that you kept those letters :) And you were right about boys not being as emotional as girls, my husband never would have thought to write inside the box. I'm sure it's hard to think of your son as a grown Navy man, but our men are so brave for what they are doing for their families and their country! It's gonna be scary when they have to deploy for the first time, I know I'm going to be a basket case!

Yes! I cried and did cherish every word! I feel like it's been years since I've seen him, though it's only been 19 days. Kyle melissa, glad you got your daughter's address...start sending a million letters! My husband definitely seemed desperate to get mine. When you get your daughter's letters, you won't be able to open them fast enough, or read and re-read them enough times!!

does any one have a love one that is on ship 12 Div-267 and PIR date Aug. 6th. All I see on line is Ship 12 Div. 268. is my son the only one in that Div? At first the recruiter told me Aug 13th for the PIR date. I made reservations and had to cancel them already, make sure when you make reservations you can get a refund.

I got 2 letters from my husband today, finally!! So glad to hear from him! He has some slackers in his division and they have all been punished for it. He's doing good, but he said it is excruciating. He said at one point they were up for 44 hours then got to sleep only to be awoken 5 hours later for IT due to a punishment for other guys not following rules. It breaks my heart that he has to pay for other people's bad choices :( He's homesick too...especially since he hadn't gotten any of my mail yet. He said they get 1 minute showers, is that even possible? He's counting the days until PIR!!!! Send as many letters and pics as you can, I now see that that's all they have to live for in bc...

Got the box today also. No note just clothes, cell phone, shoes and papers. I did well. Now I am waiting on the letter maybe this week.
I am like you nikosmom with all the rest!! My little by is a man! He will always be my little boy!

I dropped my son off at the recruiter's office this morning. (I did not cry until I was driving away) I am going up to Nashville this evening to have dinner with him and am going to watch him swear in tomorrow. This is harder than I thought it would be but I am trying to stay really upbeat around him.

Also, Jennifer....now join your PIR group or start one. Just remember that it should be in "Groups", and labled PIR m/dd/yyyy so others can find it (if you start one). You will get LOTS of info from moms that join that group...a great sharing group!

Jennifer: So glad that you got the extra words from your daughter! I have posted that suggestion to others to ask their kids to do...writing on the flaps. If at all possible! Glad her 1st experience at bc has been a good one. But don't be alarmed if she has ups and downs there. I would be surprised if all of the news continues to be positive....she is in processing days and my son said the same thing during that time..."not bad, they really don't yell at you much, "etc. All of that changed once actual "boot camp" started...after the processing days ended! So just prepare yourself...so you can encourage and support if she ever expresses discouragement. Maybe she will be one of those who always gets lemonade from lemons...and sees the positive in it all? Better to be prepared though. Glad that she made your day!
