Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Kyle Melissa, you're too funny! My husband's cologne got sent back in the box so I have to occasionally refresh the shirt when it loses it's smell, lol! I'm a shirt sniffer too! If my husband knew he'd probably laugh at me for being so girly, but whatever gets you through! I guess this whole 'being alone and wishing they were home' thing is something we'll have to get used to now...I can only imagine how I'm going to act when I see him at graduation...probably like a basket case :)

tasmyn44 & Montanamom, That is great news. I am so glad that it is working out for them.

No box today will keeping looking.

That is so funny that you are smelling her shirt. I think that's so cool. When Alex's box arrived I just threw everything in the washing machine. Ya'll moms are so creative at this stuff, I wish I had thought to give her a letter before she left. Instead I spent every minute I could with her. Sometimes just sitting there looking at her with a loss for words.

Montanamom: Remember our motto...no news is GOOD news in bc. Because they have to call home when there are any changes or problems. So in this case....SILENCE IS GOLDEN!

tasmyn: :-) That is such GREAT news! Now....seriously....superglue him to a chair until the 28th!

I never even thought about a POA but it makes sense.
Yes the box was hard to deal with but i'm glad I did and got it over with. I can't wait to get home and see if the letter comes today. There are so many things I just don't know about. Thanks to everyone for sharing what they are going through so we have some insight.

NOPE! Not at all! Eveyone handles the box differently. I was a "got to wash them and get them all straight" kinda mom...but others have waited....whatever makes you happy!

Ladies whose recruits have not left yet: Make sure that you have Power of Attorney on them if at all possible. I have used mine on my son 3 times already since he bought a car at his duty station in another state. I needed this to get it registered down here for him (you can register in your home state)....also had to use it to get his $$$ to him to purchase the car (he made a rather sudden decision when he found THE CAR for himself the day after arriving there...no time to mail anything!). Talk to the recruiter about it if you haven't already. I foolishly did not do this before bc....didn't even think of it and never met his recruiter (my son is older and was in a different town...handled all himself). Thankfully, he didn't have a situation during bc where I would have needed the POA, but many moms have had that. So just a suggestion!

No, I just posted the same thing. I haven't unpacked the box or washed anything yet. I took out one of my husbands shirts that smelled like him and I keep it by my pillow...I'm sure THAT sounds strange but it makes me feel better! I'm not ready to unpack the box or wash the clothes yet...

Hi, I'm new to the group but totally understand what you guys are feeling. My husband has been gone sine June 3 and when I got his box, it was a crushing feeling. I still haven't unpacked it, except one of his shirts that I keep by my pillow (sounds lame, but it makes me feel better because it smells like him). It's like picking up their personal effects at the morgue or something, it's an empty feeling. Awful. The letter with the address came a few days later so hang in there! I got the call at like midnight the night he got there and I was also shocked. It was short and sweet and I could tell he didn't have time for chit chat. I think all I got to say was I love you before he had to hang up. Hopefully we will all start getting some letters soon though!
