Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Well TJ called me from the airport he is there!!! I can't tell you how much better I feel that he is there safe. His best friend more like a brother Chris call to check on me. He is in NY and will finish Nuke school in September. He is the reason TJ joined and I am so proud of both of them. Well I will see you all on the boot camp group.
Take care and good luck to you all. Barb hope your son and the other recruits get there soon.

Barb: Glad that the recruiter is handling it. At least someone "in charge" is in contact with them. I'm sure this happens alot and it will work out. Good thing you called the recruiter. I didn't think of that. DUH! As far as beginning bootcamp, the first week or so are the processing days so they won't miss much. They'll just fall in line when they get there!

klunkette: No "break" as far as going off the base on the 4th, if that is what you mean. Mine spent Thanksgiving and Christmas at bc. They had some time off from bootcamp on those holidays, but stayed on base. He did not call me on Christmas Day, but got to the day before and on Thanksgiving. Just quick calls.

Son leaves for BC June 28th, Does anyone know if they get a break for July 4th, I know "a break" in bootcamp. But I just wanted to know.

Barb: If they are having problems, tell them to find the USO Center at the airport. There should be help there for them.

scrowde: You will be getting a form letter from him in the next week, probably. Have you received his box of clothes yet? If not, that's coming too (everything he arrived at bc with, including cell if he took it). The form letter will have all of the graduation info in it, his ship/div # and PIR date. Also your passowrd to get your gate pass for PIR (you can't download it yet...not until right before PIR, but don't lose it!).

Graduations are usually on Fridays, but occasionally on a Thursday. I have not heard of one on a Sat.

As far as the time the new sailors have with you, it depends on if they are GradNGo, staying at Great Lakes for school, etc. GradNGo means that you have PIR day with them (they usually have to be back at 8 or 9 pm...my son's division was Hall of Fame so they had until 9). But they will be bussed to the airport at 2 a.m. ln Sat....and be waiting there for their flghts. Your sailor will know at PIR what time his flight is scheduled and you can meet him at the airport, get a military family gate pass, and go to the gate with him and wait. Many do that. He also may be allowed to have his laptop and cell then (but not as long as on the Recruit base) as long as his A School allows it. My son's did (Meridian MS).
If he/she is staying in Great Lakes for school, you may get the weekend with your sailor.

You will get an address to write in the form letter. I would wait for that since you are close to getting it now. You can call his recruiter for an address, but usually it is a bit different than the form letter one (correct one) and since he has been gone for a week, I think the recruiter would tell you to wait for the form letter one. Write your letters now and you can just add the address---- and he will get a bunch at one time! They love that! The recruits can't receive mail for the first 2-3 weeks they are there.

The form letter should have lots of info about graduation. They will give you websites, etc where you can find hotels, etc. Some hotels up there that are good are Residence Inn-Waukegan, Courtyard, Springhill Suites, Ramada (where the Meet and Greet is the night before PIR), Navy Lodge, etc. I actually found the Residence Inn online by googling Great Lakes IL hotels near Navy base. We loved that one. So you can research now if you want to. I would suggest that you try for one that has the shuttle service to PIR (all of the ones I mentioned do) just in case you decide to take that rather than your car. Please feel free to "friend" me if you want to ask more questions, or post more questions on here and the moms will try to answer them.

Is graduation on Friday or Saturday? Do they get to stay with you the entire week-end? If so, when do they have to be back? When do you find out when graduation is? My son left for bootcamp on June 8 and I don't have a clue as to where to write, making reservations, etc. I have so many questions and don't know where to find answers.
