Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Just got back home from seeing Kayla off... was tearful, but she called when the plane landed in Chicago and was much better. Anyone remember what the area code is for Great Lakes so I answer the call after she gets to the base? Nice day for this here in Ohio. 4 of her friends went to Meps with us and she got to see them until she went to the plane. Her lil sisters cried and it made it hard but they understand that this is a great thing she is doing.

TJ's Mom: So glad he is starting his journey! I don't like kids sleeping half the day either...so when my Navy son moved back home after enlisting (then jobless too), I told him he needed a schedule everyday (he does better with expectations each day). So he HAD to be up by 10 each day...doing his run, exercises, etc. He had no problem with this...but you are SO right. Your son will now be an early riser for sure! At least, for a while! :-) And, yes, you DEPPER moms will just get more and more proud as your children's time in the Navy goes forward!

TJ left yesterday for MEPS. Called last night and said he was at the hotel. We live about 2 1/2 hours from Raleigh where MEPS is. He didn't want me to take him he took the bus. He said they went to every recruiter station from Wilmington to Raleigh. Picked up alot of guys only 3 were Navy all the rest were Army. Today has to be up at 5 :00 to start the MEPS stuff. I do love that. He has been unemployed for awhlie and sleeps till 1:00 everyday. No more! I love that getting him up. I was a mess yesterday hope today will be better. He said he would call when he got to the Airport in Chicago. Hope you all have a day and I will be thinking of you all. Yes our kid's are making us PROUD!!

Reading the posts and thinking about those of you saying goodbye this week...one week done for me. The box arrived today. Waiting anxiously for the address and get some mail rolling. Thinking of those who say goodbye this week....all will be well. Not saying it doesn't still hurt, but that initial pain does ease some.

Well, my son is in the air now as we speak. He's on his way to BC and should arrive late tonight. My best wishes to all. He sounded great this morning when we spoke on the phone. He's been looking forward to this for four months. He was supposed to be going in September, but got the call and bumped up his date. Good luck to you all

All of you moms who just said goodbye to your recruits....this is the hardest time emotionally that you are in. The lack of contact with them for a while is tough on us moms' hearts. Just know that the Navy is taking good care of them....they are fed well, have a place to sleep, have great medical/dental care, and are being molded into US Navy sailors. The process itself is not fun nor easy, but so worth it when they are in that uniform, standing tall! Focus on that when you miss them so much. Write them often....mail is their lifeline and survival. They LIVE to get mail, so ask mentors in their lives (coaches, teachers, etc) and family members/friends to write them. No postcards, just letters in plain white envelopes. So as not to draw attention.
Hang in their, mamas! It does get much better! You will meet some moms on boot camp group who were in your position, and are now further down the road in boot camp...they will be a great comfort to you. Congrats to your new almost-sailors!
