Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

ncf073, Hi my son is leaving me on the 15th. He is going to Raleigh NC on the 15th and flying out on the 16th. I found out today that in NC you don't have to have insurance to have a driver's license .So that is good. 5 days going by way to fast!!

Good...I was worried when I read that. Thanks for checking with your son. I guess if they are going to get in trouble they will...it is hard to predict what will set off the RDC's.

Cody's Mom: My son graudated bc in Feb, finished A School in April, and is stationed now. I just texted with him and asked him about the IT (intensive training) for too many letters. He said no, that didn't happen. But some recruits DID say they got in trouble for the fat letters. It all depends on their RDCs.

keithsgirl: It DOES get easier, once you get his first letter/phone call, but not for a few weeks. So hang in there! Welcome...we love girlfriends/wives/and moms. And sometimes we even have a dad on here! All are welcome here! You can call his recruiter to get an address for him, if you would like. Start writing the letters now and address them when you get it. Just be sure to check the recruiter's address with the one in the form letter when it comes (within the first 2 weeks usually) because the form letter one is the correct one. He will still get your other letters, but with a bit more effort from the Navy mail people. So if they differ, change to the form letter one. Sometimes they are the same, but more often, they are a bit different.

Cody's Mom: Really? They get punished for too many letters? I didn't know that. Had always read moms on here posting that their sailor LOVED getting a bunch of letters at once. They actually can get pushups for FAT letters....yep, that's right. That is the more likely scenario. So better to have several letters than FAT ones! :-)

I can totally sympathize with all of you. For those of you that are writing daily waiting on an address- you may want to combine letters into one envelope. I know it seems like it would be fun for them to receive mass amounts of mail, but I read somewhere on here that they may have to do pushups for more than 4 pieces of mail && NO MUSICAL CARDS (some have to pt or dance until the battery dies) OUCH!

TJ's Mom: Oh, ok. Maybe every state is different. You can have a driver's license in FL without insurance...which you don't need if you don't own a car. I WILL say...since my son had no insurance anymore, when he bought his car up in VA, it was a pain with the insurance problem. He got some insurance through the dealer, temporarily, until I could get him registered, tagged, and insured here in FL (using his home address). I had to wait for the title to do that. Then it took a week for him to get it all (got it yesterday) since he has a ship's address. Sent priority mail. Actually, I'm very happy it didn't take longer...with a ship's address, I understand that it can take up to a month!

Good thing you have the POA...I have had to use that 3 times already with my son. All connected to the car...he wasn't sure he trusted a POA, but he sure is glad that I have it now.
I think everyone should make sure to have one on their recruit. It has to be used WISELY as it is a powerful tool, but I would never do anything without my son's request or permission.

...but, ladies, do not panic if you don't get that call right at 3 weeks. It can vary...sometimes your recruit may have watch and miss his group's calls, but eventually he can get his. That happened to my son. So be a bit flexible in when to expect it!

Hi ladies. My son graduated boot camp in March. I was reading some of your posts and just want to say I know exactly where you ladies are right now. Buckle up, it is an emotional ride, but OMG you won't believe the difference in your sailor, and it keeps getting better! Write letters, letters, letters and it really is "no news is good news." You will hear from them about 3 weeks in. It is a mandatory call. That and the arrival call were the only two I got, but keep your cell phone in your pocket because other ladies got more calls than I did. Send them addressed stamped envelopes so when they do get a chance to write they can spend all that time writing not addressing envelopes. Also, send them fill in the blank questions that you have and they can fill in the blanks and send it back to you.
