Latest Activity: Jun 12

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of June (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have June ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in June, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Tj's mom I never had to worry about my son smoking but he does have a sunburn that needs to heal fast

Jaz04, My son is working on the PT also his biggest thing is trying to stop smoking. He thought he wasn't leaving till September and then 2 weeks ago was told June 15. He is doing good with it. His recruiter told him not to worry about the smoking he wouldn't have time to to think about it in BC. That was the wrong thing to tell him.

tasmyn , Sorry to hear about your son. Vit E oil or neosporin will work. Keep it real clean and use tape to close the wound.

So , we arrived at the recruiters office with Austin and we were told " all was a go, everything has been processed !" We said our good-byes ( without a tear !) and got in our car and I balled my eyes out.
Austin called us from the hotel, and was stoked, that his time has finally arrived and he was on his way.
We arrived at MEPS this morning at 0900 to see him sworn in. then........ we were all told that there is still a security issue pending.
We sat there untill noon to see if perhaps the necessary work might come thru. Needless to say, it did NOT. We came home with our son, and were told that all should be good to go on Monday to ship out. .... Do I even have to say that this up and down is about killing me. I can't immagine how Austin feels. He was very stoic at MEPS and did not fuss a bit. ( Mom and Dad were very vocal about our feelings)
Tomorrow, we will be calling the recruiter at 0900 to see if anything has changed, hopeing he can begin his journey again Sunday afternoon, back to the hotel.
Like my husband has told me, " hurry up and wait, it's the military"
Love to all, Sue

My son
Contract - Seabee - BU (builder)
Ship - June 7th
from Michigan

Got the POA and banking taken care of. He continues to work on the PT. The ranks seem to be stumping him, but I told him he better get them down so he knows who to salute. LOL

tasmyn: Let's hope that there is lots of healing between now and Monday (try some Vit. E oil ). Please post and let us know what happens, but hopefully, he will be ok to go.

Sue: Did your son leave????

Good Luck to you Awesome's Mom, My son isn't leaving till 14 days. He has gone to NY to see this best friend and been gone since Saturday I miss him already. We can get thru this. I know I will be doing alot of praying. Wanda

Awesome's Mom: Oh boy...nothing like complications to add to the emotions already there! Please post so we can know if he left today. If he has until Monday, you may have time to get a Power of Attorney on him...which I highly advise for all moms on here to do for their recruits. I have had to use mine for my son now about 3 times...mainly in regard to him buying a car in another state (needed his money from his acct down here...he had no access to it where he was), and then registering it here in his home state (which military can do). What a JOURNEY this was...even with the POA! So I strongly advise everyone to get one before their child leaves. It is a very binding document, so make sure you discuss it with him/her and assure him/her of how it will be used if necessary. My son was a bit freaked out when I told him I needed one as he had heard from other sailors that their parents had taken advantage of that and removed money from their accounts without permission. So there should be lots of dialog on this. I actually got it "just in case", never expecting to have to use it. Of course, his buying a car up at his duty station is what initialized all of its use!

Well... The day has arrived :o( We will be dropping Austin off at the recruiters office today at 1500. My emotions are just in turmoil ! I'm praying that I can hold up for him, as I don't want him to see my tearey eyed again.
We rcd. a call form a Chief on Friday, needing him back at MEPS immediately ! It seems someone dropped the ball somewhere and his security clearance was not in place.... Ugh ! AS he was away camping with his buddies upstate, and with the long holiday weekend, he wasn't able to get this taken care of untill yesterday ! ! !
He is scheduled to ship today, however there is a slight chance, it may be next Monday. Talk about mixed emotions ...
Well, love to you all. ~Sue~

Stephanie: Uh oh on the meds. Are they anti-inflammatories? He sure wants to leave in tip top shape so that he doesn't have to drop back into medical at bc, so tell him to work hard to get that knee 100 percent before the 23rd!
Comment by diannep on May 29, 2010 at 11:31pm
Hi, CurtsMom: Wow, that is great that you will have your son nearby for A School. He can actually come home on weekends, maybe eventually overnight on weekends too. That would be great. And I know there will be moms with kids there who will welcome your invitation. I wish you were in Norfolk VA! I needed "an address" to overnight something to my son about a week ago. He just arrived 2 weeks ago (duty station) and has no address yet. We worked a way around that, but it sure is convenient to have a Navy Mom in the area. I had met one on here, but then her son was released from bc for medical reasons. So sad. Did you get on boot camp site too? Very informative.
