OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Comment by STG3_VeNard on January 24, 2011 at 7:05pm: Forevermom- the usually go the day before because they have to inspect and do more paperwork. The day of shipping will be more paperwork swear in and then getting plane tickets to Chicago. They will also do a briefing of what to do incase you miss your flight, how to find the USO at the airport, and things you can or cannot bring with you. Your recruit will then get all their meps paperwork and their plane ticket and go on their marry way. :)

soonergirl99-craziness, we are from OKC, live in the Dallas area and I use to be soonergirlgina on here, however I get so much grief from other sites that I changed it to gina, maybe I'll change it back since I'm in good company!

today marks 49 days left, hit me pretty hard last night, so hard I wanted to be asleep before midnight so I wouldn't have to see it change to "49" I'm already losing touch with how reality works aren't I? It's been a little harder lately as H has been working out of town since last Wednesday, guess it's a tiny glimpse of what it will be like when he leaves for BC, I sure am going to miss the texts and phone calls...H leaves on the 15th and like many will actually leave on the 14th to do the whole hotel then MEPS in the morning thing, I've been upset about him leaving on my birthday, and then a classmate made me realize that at least I will get to see him on my birthday, what a difference that perspective has made.

School has started and I sure nailed the objective to be super busy while he is gone *sigh* I am super thankful that H will be leaving during spring break though, I'm sure I won't want to be in class that week.

H was in the Armed Forces Bowl Game induction ceremony, unfortunately it was sold out so I didn't get to go, they didn't televise the halftime and I've yet to find video or pics online anywhere, but isn't it so neat for them to get to do stuff like this?

for the new people, hubby leaves on March 15th and is an AECF, it will be longest we will have been apart in over 8 years, buuuut I'm super excited, and I see this new life as an adventure for us both

Well, we are now back on track for my son to leave March 15th instead of the end of this month as they had told us. My hubby decided last night that he wants to drive to the graduation instead of fly in case there are any changes to our son's weekend. That way, if he gets to spend time with us/or not, we don't have to worry about changing plane tickets or anything like that. I'm originally from Chicago, and my and sons have never been, so it'll be fun visiting my home town again!

He would leave tomorrow if he could, the wait has been way too long. They really work the Special Op's boys hard before they go, so I guess he will be ready for anything at BC.

My son has to check in the recruiters office today, so I'm assuming they'll let him know what happened. Hi Shanermansmom! My son is IT. He'll be leaving to Pensacola FL for A school after BC. He's in for 6 yrs.

I found the calendar.
He is going in NF and possibly ET but I guess they learn for sure during training what thier rating will be. I will have to ask him how the NF rating works. I am new to Navy. I have to become more familiar with the all of theses acronyms, ratings....etc. We spent fives years in the Army.
