Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

My son left 3/23 and we got the kid in the box today. And the recruiter gave me a temporary address. So interesting to see his stuff and know that everything is progressing. We are hopeful for a small note soon.

Valerie2088 - It is a small world. Perhaps our RS are in the same Div/Ship and they will have something to talk about in their off time. Jason had intended to work in NASCAR upon graduation from college, but the collapse of our ecomony put a stop to that. Most of our family has served in the Navy so he decided to follow that family tradition. Perhaps we should have a group "NASCAR Moms with RS". Just kidding. Have a good one!

Hi Sara - interesting, one of our friends works with Venturini Motorsports in the ARCA races! Small world!

Got home from work today to find my "kid in a box" sitting on the kitchen table. I was really surprised at myself, I actually kept it together. I don't worry about him since he's already been through college and did a lot of traveling on his own to the ARCA races. I don't expect he's very homesick. I'm the one who's emotional. I've written to him about the NASCAR races (he worked for Mario Gosslin/ Truck series) and am just waiting for the letter with his address. I promised him I wouldn't call anyone for any reason, so I'll just wait patiently.

Angie F. - great idea about forwarding the home phone to the cell! You'd think I would know that since my husband works for Verizon!!! DUH!!! :))) I do remember her telling me that they gave her some kind of shoe inserts, but not sure exactly what. I can tell you that it's a terrible feeling knowing that I won't get to talk to her again until closer to Battle Stations week. UGH! Deep down inside, I'm hoping and praying her division earns an extra phone call home.

Jess's Mom ~ Just because it came home in the box, does not mean they did not let her keep it. Some Recruits will send home things they just decide they do not want to deal with. For a short period of time, they carry a "Rickie valuable sock" around their belt for safe keeping of their valuable items - until they get their lock sets. We actually had this discussion at our last local meeting - that many SRs just throw all in the box. They do allow address books - but they have to be small. They find they do not use them often until they get to A School...it is all they can do to write to parents, brothers, sisters, wives, etc. : ) ~ kk

~ My son loved his funny cards AND the 100 jumping jacks he did after the giggles. He wrote, "It was worth it Mom! Keep them coming." I would avoid color envelopes : ) ~ kk

Wow! Thanks Angie....yes it should read; "They do not want attention drawn their way." It was a bit tough for my 6' 6" SR. He kind of stood out : ) ~kk

Would a funny card with a color envelope make it diffucult for my son?

Jess's mom - the form letter should come any day. We did not get ours until day 10 or 11, as I remember mailing off a pile of letter's I had written the day I got her address. Be sure to look at the bottom of the form letter - there will be a few lines from her daughter!!!!
