Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Linda: we are not able to be at the swearing in this morning, since we live so far away. Can you tell me what it was like? I think they will be at RCT at the same time.

Did you join your Ship/Division group? You will have a great bond with your recruits' other division family members. Did you join your PIR date group? It is also good to know what other divisions within the PIR date are doing. Did you join your state group? Great support! Do not forget to jump back to the boot camp group : ) ~ kk

We got our son in a box today (only 6 days from leaving home)....and I just want to say a GREAT BIG THANKS for all of you who have gone through this before us and your posts - we have been much more prepared for everything because all of your efforts to guide our way (legal paperwork/ kid in a box / lack of communication) !!!!!!!

Just got back from taking my son to the recuriters. They will take him to Columbus and then to GL tomorrow. I'm glad they let them keep their cell phones, at least I'll get a couple more calls before I get the "I'm here" call. I kept it together till I got back home but now it's starting to sink in. He's gone. I'm so proud of him.

She just got picked up about 15 minutes ago. I spent 15 minutes sitting in her room teary eyed, but knowing that this is her future. I will miss her dearly, but I am so proud of her. Let me stop before the waterworks starts again. God Bless N4M for this wonderful, informative and understanding group.

Our son goes to the recruiters office this morning as well. Since we live 3 hours from MEP"S they drive him over and finish the final processing. Tomorrow he flies to Chicago. He is calm and we are proud. My tears this morning are happy tears. Linda we have also been waiting close to a year.

“Hell Week” – Marlinspike (ship stuff and “fun stuff like line handling”, etc.), PFA, Personal Inspection, Weapons Turnover Inspection, Zone Inspection, Live Fire Range, and usually the last day is Drill inspection, uniform tailoring, and picture taking. I do not know why they call it "hell week." My son called it fun stuff! I feel it beings it all together for them too. : ) ~ kk

The kid-in-a-box ~ Except for the tennis shoes and the cell phone, my box remained packed until we came home from PIR. It was all I had of him to hug until I saw him again. He laughed when I told him. His box is now full of letters and memorabilia. We intend to sit and have a drink as we unpack it when he comes home after A School. : ) ~ kk

Recruits meeting up at GL RTC ~ There are approximately 6 to 13 divisions running with the same PIR date. Each division starts with 88 SRs. It takes time to fill some of the divisions (i.e. 900 and I believe 800 series). For this reason, not all SRs arriving on the same day or even in the same week will have the same PIR date. My son left with 5 other recruits. Once they arrived at GL RTC; they were placed in different divisions and none were in my son's PIR. The stated length of boot camp was 7.5 to 9 weeks. Once you have your official form letter, you should join the group with your Ship/Division. Joining your PIR date group is also good - but they do not always have the same experiences at the same time. Joining your Ship/Division group will be a smaller group with common happenings (i.e. phone calls, Hell Week (but fun), Battle Stations 21, etc.). You will be able to follow these experiences through your SR's letters - calls are not very frequent. : ) ~ kk
