Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Nope still no letter for me either. I am waiting and waiting, I said that no news is good news, but right now I want to know how he's doing. I feel a tad forgotten and it makes me really sad. I hope he's doing okay!

tayway ~ Check out that postmark! They write on Sundays (the first 4 weeks usually - then sometimes more often) and they are usually mailed on Monday. So you will know your approximate day of the week for receiving yours. : ) ~ kk

No letter or call yet from my daughter and I'm getting anxious! I have written her everyday since she left on the 3rd. I just realized that yesterday I sent her a card that was enclosed in a purple envelope - hope it doesn't cause any trouble for her now that I'm thinking about what I did. Anyone get a call or a letter yet?

so I found out about the pay. they will get their first check 4 weeks in and then there after it's on the 1st and the 15th of the month. The deduction from the first check is normally around $600 and they give a prorated amount from the second they got there even though it's not until the 4th week of their boot camp. If they are married they will get family seperation pay (which is a little more money) even during boot camp. But remember also that they process a lot of sailors at the same time so if it's not there and you need it to be to ask questions or call the financial office at the Recruit Training Command Center that he's at!!!
That's all I know for now.

mulva1967 Too funny about the BCGs (military issue boot camp glasses) - also nicknamed Birth Control Glasses. My son had Drew Carey type glasses going into GL RTC. So the BCGs were not a drastic change. He did compliment though. LOL

If your SR left with glasses, they will be able to wear them during picture time (usually the last day of Hell Week - but really fun). If they left with contacts, and kept them in their rack - they also can wear them during picture time. If they want to wear their contacts during picture time, and they did not take them, discuss sending a limited supply to them a later date. Most RDCs let that happen. They will only be able to wear their own glasses and contact lenses during picture time and PIR weekend...until the leave for A School. : ) ~ kk

Laurilyn & Lady Zurk ~ Hello! Do not forget you have the private message option on each others pages. Just accept each other as friends and you send email type messages to each other. I suggest this as you are asking for names and the SRs usually do not know each others first names. If they are in the same division and you want to share their last names, I personally think it is best if you do it in private message format. Once you write them and say, "Do you know Jimmy from Erie, PA (example)? They will inform you that first names are not used during BC. Many (most) actually carry on the last name identification with each other as buddies in A school too! If you were to say, "Do you know the SR that is in charge of the ironing boards?" They will know exactly who you are talking about. Welcome to boot camp : ) ~ kk

Wade 142- Thanks for the feedback. We had suggested that but I think she wanted to hang on as long as possible. Either way I am sure she is "rockin" the hair cut too. Thanks for the thoughts. I don't feel so alone reading everyone's posts. These groups have really helped.
