Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

7 months ago my son signed...he leaves March 1st.  I cannot believe how fast it's gone by.  I feel like there is so much to do and not enough time.  He is acting so calm and mom is the one freaking out.

24 days until my son leaves..I can not express enough how PROUD of him we are...I guess I am not to upset yet we get to go to Fort Hamilton and then stay at the hotel overnight in Staten Island. The next morning following him to the airport is when I think I will feel it the most!!!

Thanks so much for the advice!  My son is busy studying!  He's so funny about the studying, but he's using his time wisely and getting everything memorized.  He's doing well with his PT too!  Funny how getting a ship date really made him get moving!  I don't think I'll have to worry about him trying to be the "funny one" though.  He's pretty quiet, but I've warned him anyway!  His recruiter entirely agreed!  lol!  Thanks again!  I'm enjoying my days with him.  March 21 is coming really fast!

Chiming in on the studying. My son was in DEP for a very short time, and so he didn't know what was what. Being the serious sort, when the recruiter gave him the booklet to study, he memorized it over the weekend! He was very surprised to go in to his first DEP meeting and find out that the other DEPPERs were taking it slooowwwllly (only learning one or two tiny parts a week). However, his speediness was worth it -- being physically fit and knowing the information from the DEP booklet helped him to come out of bootcamp as an E2 (went in E1).

Ladies, JessicaB's advice is such good advice.  I agree!  Please really encourage your deppers to study.  No matter how much they don't want too, it's imperative that they prepare.  Even if their recruiter is not pushing them to study their DEP booklet  (which my son's recruiter didn't do) please tell them how important it is to be prepared before they get there.  It will be so much easier for them, in the long run.

Hi Everyone...I just wanted to pop in to tell you to hang in there.  I was in your shows a year ago.  My son left on 3/23 for Great Lakes and he just reminded me in an email that he has been in the Navy for almost a year and time has flown.  The best word of advice is listen to what JessicaB says below.  Those that tried to be a little prepared said it helped.  The only other word of advise for your recruits is when in boot camp keep quiet and do what you are told.  My son said that makes all the difference.  He is now through A school and currently on his first deployment.  I could not imagine being to this point but here we are.  Buy stamps so you are prepared to write and maybe even pick up a few cards of encouragement so you have them ready to go.  Just don't send anything glittery or bulky, remember non descript as far as envelopes go.  Good Luck you will cry, laugh, and cry some more but when you see them at PIR it will be an amazing feeling.
