Latest Activity: Jul 21, 2022

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Mine will probably be later tonight or in the middle of the night. We are on the west coast so bc is 2 hours ahead of us time wise. Thanks for posting valtameri! Where did your SR leave from?

@Ginnibean ~ Thanks for the great suggestion!  It made me smile just thinking about pulling a few slots since I'll be driving past Riverwind.

@ebigirl ~ I also only have one child and, just like you, not on purpose, just happened that way.  I have 4 sisters so our house was very busy when I was growing up.

Thanks for the support. @Kathy: what part of the NW are you from? We are in the Seattle/Tacoma area. I can't imagine having 5 other kids in the house. I'm from a family of 5 and have already been down that road. My SR is my only child. Not on purpose, just happened that way.

soonergirl stop at riverwind and pull a few slot machines, perhaps that will give you a good reason to smile all the way home on I-35!!!

I'm driving to OKC tomorrow morning (3 1/2 hour drive if the Dallas traffic is too horrible) so I can spend some time with B before he ships out to GL.  I hope to arrive at the Fed Building and watch as he is officially sworn in and then go to the airport and hang out with him in the USO room.  I am so happy for B and that his Navy dream (since at least middle school) is finally being realized.  However, I have a feeling it's going to be a llllooooonnnnnngggggg drive back to Big D.  {{{ Hugs }}} to all of the moms, wives and girlfriends who have loved ones shipping out this month.

I'm living with my mom right now so when I get really sad she takes my son for a minute so I can go ball my eyes out in the  bedroom.  I'm trying to stay strong for him, I don't want him to see me crying all  the time.  I'm reading everything I can about navy life, and although I'm happy that in 2 months I'll get to see him, I keep thinking that my life is never going to be the same.  He's going to be away for months at a time for years.

I think once we move out to a navy base it will get easier because I'll be surrounded by other navy wives.

ebigirl, I didn't cry at all tues. when my daughter shipped out.. today, that's another story, I can't stop! :(

aveoamare... that statement makes me sooooo mad!  It just goes to show that unless you have gone through it or going through it, they just don't get it.  As someone else said.. YES, we are mourning.  Hugs to you! I can't imagine having a baby w/hubby gone... I said to my husband today, I wish I didn't have to deal with the 5 other kids in the house today! :/

Hello Everyone,

My SR is currently on his way to The Great Lakes as I type this. The past 3 days have been a whirlwind to say the least. He left with 3 other "kids" from the Pacific Northwest. I'm waiting for my phone call sometime tonight/early morning.

On the topic of $$$ for graduation, we have decided to DRIVE. Yes, drive from Seattle to Omaha, NE (to pick Grandma up) and then to Chicago. With airfare skyrocketing higher by the hour, it's actually cheaper to pack up my Honda Pilot and drive. I'm NOT looking forward to the drive....but I'm not going to miss PIR either.

I know there are many of us who's child shipped today. I am very proud of myself, I didn't cry until we were back in the car driving home. I know that my son has made the very best decision for his future, and his dad and I support him 200%!!! We are very proud of him!
