Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

drjclary....go to http://callsforrecruits.org and get FREE calling cards for him.  You or Him should not have to pay for Phone Calls home from Boot Camp!!

Hi..I haven't got him a calling card yet.  How many minutes should I put on it?

Also, how much money should he take.  As I understnd it, he will leave Monday from SC to to to GL.  Don't know about the flight.

oops.. posted too soon.  Wanted to say thank you for all the information so many of you have shared here to help prepare me for his departure. I have been lurking for a while and have learned so much from you.

I cannot believe (or do not want to) that my sailor will be leaving Sunday for GL.  We are having an ice cream party for him tomorrow.  What a journey this will be.  I hope that the PIR will be 7/06.  I want BC OVER with!  Anyone else have those feelings?  I think it will be a little easier after that step.

Hello!

I will be looking for the mom/wife/GF etc. who will be interested in creating the next PIR group.

Hopefully 07/06/2012…Not sure if there will be a PIR this week because of the Fourth of July Holiday.

BUT…there may be…so please report in with your PIR dates when you get your Form letters…even if you do not want to create the group…it will at least let us know that there IS a PIR for that date.

This most likely will be a "mom" who's recruit arrived to RTC sometime this last week...there are no exacts…ONLY my “guestimation”. (Possibly 05/03 – 05/08) Some of you will start receiving your form letters soon with your recruits PIR date in it.

New TG’s are usually posted on RTC website on Mondays (unless there is a Federal Holiday then it is Tuesday). Lately, it has been posted later in the week. Then back to Mondays! So you can see what I mean about no exacts.

BC can be anywhere from 7.5 to 9 weeks. It is also possible for recruits to arrive in the same week…or on the same day…but have different PIR dates. Your recruiter may have your recruit’s ship/division as early as 72 hours after arriving at BC. I will take this ship/div # for the purpose of starting a PIR group BUT please wait for the form letter that your recruit will send home to address your mail and send it. The address your recruiter gets oftentimes is incomplete or has too much information that is not necessary for the address.

Folks, if it is something you think you'd be interested in...Friend me, send me a message and get details.

Thank You!

FTLW

My son had his removed there as well.  He said it sucked but it was a nice break.  LOL...He got to study in quarters for 2 days....So maybe it will work out for her just the same....

My daughter shipped out last week and when she called to say she got there safely she told us she's going to have her wisdom teeth removed.  Yikes!  Boot camp is hard enough I can't imaging trying to do it after having your teeth removed. Good luck.

My son left one year ago 5/12/11.  It has been a true adventure and mostly positive!! He loves the Navy, is happy with his school and jobs and has adjusted to military life very well.

Stay positive, stay close as possible and enjoy the ride!

My son just left yesterday May 9, this is tougher than I thought.  Someone tell me it gets better.
