Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

@MidwestMom- Thanks. Yes, I was not expecting a call this morning either, and the worst thing was that it said "UNKNOWN" on Caller ID and no number with area code. I'm super thankful that I answered it. When I heard his voice I jumped so quick, cause as you mentioned, was not expected for another 2 weeks. Your right about the address. Got it from the recruiter like 3 or 4 days later and it was confirmed when I received the Form letter. I sent out a letter the next day Tuesday, and I asked if he had received any letters and he said no. He also as expected wants lots of letters. It's something they all are hoping for :)

Congrats NYRican!  That was a lot less than the 3 weeks we are supposed to expect before we hear from them again.

Sherblond - The recruiter may be able to give you an addy after 3 days, but most on these sites tell you not to trust them.  That being said, most addresses are correct.  I'm going to try to give him a full week before I call for an address and there's a chance I could have the official letter by then.  Till then, working on building a stack of letters and cards, trying to incorporate pics in my letters, etc.

Oh my Lord, just got my first call!!! Ship 12, DIV 224 expect your calls. It was only 3-5 minutes and we spoke sooooo fast it was funny. Oh but the best was his spirit, he says he is extremely happy and excited about his rate (CTI) and just sounded happy. He also said that obviously he only knows his shipmates by last name so sailor mom etc... I'll only know your sailors by knowing your last name. It's funny cause one name that stood out was an italian name and I kept saying Cris.... I'm talking to much but I'm just excited and happy. Have a great day folks :)

MidwestMom - Yes my son also is very excited which helps me get through this. My rough time was his "going away" party a couple of weeks ago. I kept it together pretty good at the party, but cried all the way home and for about another 1.5hrs until I fell asleep. Since then I have been ok, but am more focusing on details of going through his stuff, ie. what he will want when he gets to A School, etc. and making sure he has what he needs to leave, stamps, phone card, etc. I was wondering when the Recruiter will actually have an address.

Sherblond - I'm one week ahead of you.  I received my box last Friday and am fighting an urge to call the recruiter on Monday to see if he can get me an address.  Just keep breathing and enjoy the game.  I had a rough day last Sunday and Monday (lots of tears), but was better Tuesday saying our final good-byes.  Crazy.  It helped to see him because he was so happy and ready to go!

Hi all, Well today is my last full day with my boy before he leaves for Great Lakes. Leaves with recruiter for Cleveland tomorrow, then we are planning on meeting up with him tomorrow night for an Indians game -- Go Tribe -- then he is off to Great Lakes on Tuesday. Gosh this is so rough, but also so comforting to read everyones posts who are going through the same thing. Thanks all for the great posts. This site is very informative and just so helpfull. Even though I don't personally know any of you, I feel like we are one big family just by reading your posts and knowing we are all going through the same emotions. So proud of my boy, so excited for him yet so sad to see him go.

Last night Charlotte had her big send off party with her friends.  She had it at her friends house, and her step dad and I delivered the pizza and then left.  I haven't heard from her yet and assume she is  sleeping in.  Its starting to feel real, now.  She is 22 and has left home before, but this feels different.  Her ship date is the 31st.

Well, I THOUGHT I was getting the box yesterday when I saw the Fedex guy go down the street... but he went by and stopped at the neighbors down the road.  My son arrived at GL last Tuesday so I would expect I should get it soon. I really hope it doesn't get delivered to someone else!
