Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

He did it!  My son swore in to active duty and has made it to Chicago.  I'll write more later.

I thought I had posted something earlier, my daughter is on her way to Chi-Town, not sure what time I will receive the call but I will be waiting. It was so awesome to be witness to her Oath of Enlistment, same Oath that her Father and I took many years ago and repeated every 3-4 yrs.

Hi ladies,

I joined this group just to give you a tiny tidbit of advice that's helping me while my boyfriend is at BC. He left on April 19th and the day he left he took my phone and made a voice recording saying "I love you, I miss you" and some other words of encouragement. It's amazing because I get to hear his voice when I really need to. If your phone has the ability i highly recommend getting your own personal voice note! And join your PIR group...you'll find comfort in making plans to see your recruits together!

MNSunshine:  That's great that you got to have dinner and a nice evening.  See - this is working out better than you thought it would!  You're already learning to stay flexible.  Roll with it girlfriend and keep reminding yourself that this is all going to turn out great.  It will.

My son was called in 3 hours early today, so we didn't get the calm morning of photos etc we were anticipating.  After spending an hour at the recruiting station we were told they weren't providing a ride to the hotel check-in after all.  I was able to reshuffle schedules at home for the younger ones and got him to check-in on schedule.  His dad was able to join us for dinner and a little fun time.  It was a very nice evening ... that ended all too soon.  Luckily I was able to make it to my car before the tears began to fall.

I too wrote to my son and plan to hand it to him tomorrow.  I'm a writer and am sure I could have written a book.  Instead, I wrote something clear and concise ... something that can fit in his wallet.

Swear in is sometime between 10 and 1 tomorrow.

What an emotional roller coaster this is.

The official list of items a recruit can bring includes a wristwatch, so I got my daughter one.  Didn't hear they could get picked on about it.  She's at the hotel now as well Capricorna and she and her roommate were studying!  Gotta glue my phone to myself tomorrow so I don't miss "the call" when she gets to GL.

Good luck omgzduhh

CTmomof3 -

About the wristwatch - I read somewhere that if they start out wearing a watch, then it becomes part of their uniform, and is one more thing that they can be picked on about.  I chose not to send my son off with a watch.  He's at the hotel now and off to Great Lakes tomorrow.  Let the adventure begin!

My son leaves on the 16th.. they are traveling to to MEPS and then staying over... leaving the next morning for Great Lakes. I'm getting excited for him but sad too.He has his DEP meeting tomorrow.. Hopefully we'll be visiting out of state this weekend so he can see his grandparents and aunts/uncles before he leaves. So overwhelming now that the time is getting closer!
