Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Oh my gosh!  I'm so relieved, happy, thrilled, etc.  My son shipped out on May 8th.  I got the I'm here call and the box and waited for the call or form letter.  I got a call on Friday the 8th telling me he was in the hospital with pnuemonia in both lungs and a high fever.  I got another call on Sunday the 10th telling me he was being released but ordered to bed rest for three more days.  Since then I had heard nothing.  I cried and prayed every day trying to stay busy and think positive.  Yesterday I was on a plane for a short trip and came home to a voice message that he has been assigned a division!  That means he passed his physical test!  I'm so incredibly happy and relieved.  His graduation will now be July 20th, but I couldn't be happier!  So, my questions are all about PIR.  Where can I go for information about when, where, how long, etc.?

Can't thank you all enough for this supportive group!  Our prayers for our loved ones and each other really make a difference!

Good Morning EliteLioness, I am so Happy that you are feeling so much better, Yes drained it will make you. I just wanted to stay in bed half the time. Start lookin up what he will be studying for his Job or trade, how long his classes will be. what I did was I started learning the Lingo. So when my Son called I knew what he was talking about and then I used some words of my own and shocked him, he's like Mom where did you learn all that, I said what kind of Mom would I be if I didnt know what you were talking about and how to talk myself, He laughed so hard. so that was pretty neat. I will put some sites down for you if you would like to look things up. check your my page in a bit. My prayers are with you and your Loved One the same. Have a Great Day and try to get some rest!

My son's voice was a mixture of annoyance and fatigue.  Don't worry - it's a very long day and they all sound that way!  It's all part of the plan.  Sorry you missed the call, but actually it's kind of nice that you have a recording of it!  Sometimes we just have to find the positives.

EliteLioness I'm so sorry you are feeling this way, do not continue to beat yourself up. this is going to be hard couple of weeks as it is. you were lucky enought o speak to him while at the airport and he knows you are his strength. The call is a little emotional but they are standing there while they are making the scripted call so a little nervous/scared over the phone is normal.. Please continue to keep your head up and think all positive things. Your Loved One will be fine and he gots this! I will keep you and your Son in my Prayers.

Good Morning to All, if there is anything that I can help out with please reach out to me. I help out on Boot Camp Moms so if your Loved one is now in BC please join the site. if there is some information that is needed and you cannot find or it hasnt been posted please reach out to me. Thank You and Have a Great Day!

@Elitelioness,

try not to beat yourself up, I’m so sorry that you didn’t get to hear his voice nor he hear yours. Saying a prayer of comfort and strength for both of you. Start writing him letters, I found writing my daughter helped me a lot and still does three weeks later, and know that he knows you love him and you are with him in spirit.

Some may be so wound up but it is a good idea for them to relax and get some sleep while they can.

Comment by Phoenixmom on May 30, 2018 at 7:22pm

ElitLioness you are on top of it Good for you! it may be the wee hours but that is ok, please let me know how it went. tell him to get some sleep on the plane it will do him good, he will need it because when they get there it is going to be a long one.  There is no sleep for the new recruits from arrival until TAPS the following evening when they are in a temporary Ship, the USS Pearl Harbor, where they sleep during Phase I or Processing (P-days) before moving to their permanent Ship. During Phase I, days begin around 4 am and end between 8 and 10 pm. (Read First 24 Hours for more in this article from the PAO.)

EliteLioness that sometimes happens, but make sure you keep your phone near and have him to not let his cell phone die or he will not be able to call you with the I'm here call sometimes that happens then they dont have enough charge to be able to call and they do not have phones for them to call.

Hi Heather great News on the Box! next will be the form Letter. As Tabitha Mentioned it does, but you will have days where your Emotions will take over. I know it can be easier said than done, but you do have to keep your mind busy. Start writing letters and number them. the form letter usually takes 10 to fourteen business days, but remember things have changed a bit. on the 5th business day your SR. will do his Initial run and if he fails he will then get retested in 48 hrs so this also will play into when the form letter will be sent. here are some sites to read so you will know what happens ok.

Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) and Fitness Improvement Training ... for more information See When to Expect Your Form Letter.
