Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of May (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have May ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in May, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Ruthann: Thanks for sharing that! Something for us to look forward to. Mine has been in since Nov, and I see some good changes in him...but he has a ways to go! So I'll look forward to the future! Thanks! Good luck to both of your "boys!"

Teachertoo: Don't be sorry...we all know that feeling. Loss of control for us moms when it comes to our kids (and contact too) is frightening. I know that I did not like all of the shots he was getting...we are natural...not big dr people...vitamins, good food, exercise etc instead...and I didn't like that they were putting all of that "stuff" in his body. I even researched to see if he could refuse.....NO WAY! I just try not to think about it... :-)

Jennifer: Just remember, you are in the VERY hard time now...with no communication. The box and form letter will come in the next week or so. Make sure you are on the boot camp site...because those ladies on there are going through this too, or have been through it. Once you get that 1st phone call (no telling when but usually not until at least the 3rd week, but up to the division commanders on when they can call)....or 1st letter...you will feel better. Just know that this is the Navy, they are taking care of him, he is being fed well, sleeping, has excellent medical and dental care there, everything he needs. It gets better! Mine reports to his first duty station in 3 days..home on leave now. So I have been where you are. Stay on boot camp site...and express your feelings there. Many will be there for you! Hang in there!

Julie: Good luck to your niece. Also, as I told Jennifer above, get on boot camp site because it is very helpful.

LauraLee: Same advice for you. Boot camp site. Ladies, hang in there, all of you. It is not easy for us moms/aunts, etc...but it DOES get better and we become so very proud of our recruits turning into sailors!

Candy: Way to go on sending the cards and the humor! Encouragement and humor...just what he needs to hear, so keep up the good work! He will love getting anything from home...they live for mail call!

RuthAnn: As a "veteran" of this process, I know you can help many on here and on the boot camp site! You must be a pro at this by now!

CW Mom: WONDERFUL news from your son. As far as missing you, he will as the time goes on, but not much time to think about that until the evenings. But I think it is more about appreciating than missing...they learn to appreciate what they had taken for granted at home for so long. A good thing! It really gets them in touch with their true feelings. One mom I know got the most beautiful letter last week from her son expressing how he felt about his parents, the way the raised him, etc...she said the best Mother's Day gift ever and very unexpected from this child! LIke I found out, they "change".

And, by the way, HAPPY MOTHERS DAY to all of you moms. Know that your children are thinking of you today...and appreciating you like never before!

Hey ladies.. I got my form letter today and here is some encouragement.. Look what my son wrote: 'nothing really to write. just make sure you give this address to the people I wanted. It's not bad here, just don't screw up & it's easy. Tell Abbey (his sister) to put my facebook status as Division 4 love ya bye.' So I guess he's doing ok. WAY happy to hear him say it's not bad there and not sound sad. His graduation date if all goes well will be June 25th.
So there you go! All that worrying I have been doing and he is doing fine. Didn't even say he missed me! :-( But I'm ok with that as long as he's doing ok that is what matter the very most. You know I just thought of something today. I was thinking that when I think of Colton being there, I always imagine him sad. Then I realized he may not be sad! That maybe he was actually enjoying some of what he was doing. I pictured him there smiling in my head and it changed the way I felt about him being there immediatly. Then I get the letter later and he actually said it's not bad. Funny how it never occurred to me till this morning that he could be feeling anything but sad. And he will have only been there one week Monday! And he had never been away from home before either. I was really worried about how he would deal with. Looks like that worry was all for naught!
