Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Thinking of all you mom's with sons/daughters leaving for GL this week. Keeping you all close in thought and prayer as you release your child into the arms of the Navy. As I let go of my son on 10/26, you all will have received the box and your first letters........time goes quickly, however, it doesn't make the moment any easier. ((HUGS)) to each of you!

Sunny - your daughter is beautiful! I love her hair style; very upbeat and stylish!

Meaghan got "the haircut" on Saturday! It didn't go well :( It didn't help that it was homecomming weekend and the salon was packed. She wouldn't open her eyes at all once they put her hair in the pigtails to cut them off. When it was all done, she started to cry, which made me cry, which made the stylist cry, which made all 11 other stylist and and all of their 11 homecoming customers become a little emotional as well. She actually left the salon with the hood of her hoodie over her head and wouldn't take it off all day. Sunday was better once she realized it wasn't too bad. I actually think it's cute and makes her look more mature, but she just wasn't having it. We donated her hair to Locks of Love! Wednesday is around the corner and I'm missing her already :( Good luck to all that leave today and Tuesday (and later in the month as well)!!

Hi, my son graduated from boot camp in July. I just wanted to mention something that was sort of a big deal for my son's PIR graduates. The recruits that went to MEPS with only their contacts were not aloud to wear them for graduation or the weekend of liberty. They should take their glasses also so that they can wear their own glasses for graduation. The recruits that didn't take glasses had to wear those awful BCG's (birth control glasses) for graduation and liberty weekend. Most of them were not happy about that. Just something that might be a good idea. Good luck to everyone.

Just 5 days until we drive our son to MEPS next Monday. He's been DEP since Jan. I seldom saw him because of his work schedule & his social life. However, he's been home continuously this entire week. He's been spending a lot of time on nukeworker.com these past few days. More importantly, he & I have been able to spend quite a bit of quality time together discussing his career goals & plans. He's very excited to be leaving next week. He's very close w/his grandfather (age 82) & was tearful about the prospect that his grandfather could die during his 6 yr contract. I told him that that what counts in life is the quality time that you spend w/your loved ones while they are here on earth & that his family will understand if he is not able to come home if something should happen.

AndreaS61 - I understand it how Julie~Randy's Mom explained it as well! Sounds like our kids will all be there and have PIR at the same time, but they might not be in the same Division.
Comment by Julie (AECF-ET) on September 29, 2010 at 5:08pm
From what I read...it takes all week for the division to fill up. It looks like kids come in from all over during that week but end up together. That's atleast what I understood. Anybody correct me if that isn't accurate.

My daughter is leaving 10/4 from Seattle, WA. Will all of the recruits who are leaving 10/4 will be in boot camp together?
Comment by Julie (AECF-ET) on September 29, 2010 at 4:49pm
My son leaves next week on 10/7 and he can't seem to stay home for any real length of time now. He's off with his friends playing video games and hanging out like it's the last hurrah!! Meanwhile we are at home already missing him because he won't stay home. I guess his sisters and I are too weepy for him. Maybe we're smothering him...but I can't seem to get enough of him right now. I'm starting to get angry at him and I don't want to.
