Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of October (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have October ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in October, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Kathy, He sounds like an awesome kid, for sure. Have you taped him singing at church? Would they allow you to do that? I was just thinking that it might help you keep him close to you, when he is away. I hope you post some pictures of him before and after the haircut. It's a shame that it's not long enough for Locks for Love this time. : ( Does it still have to be 10 inches? I think that's what it was when my daughter did that. It sounds like he has his head on pretty straight for a 25 year old.
Well, I'd better get to bed, so I'm alert for my drive tomorrow.
You didn't bore me either, I love hearing about you and your son.

Betsy, I always enjoy hearing about family. A road trip, wow. That sounds great. What a wonderful idea. Have a good and safe trip. Tell me all about it when you get back. I feel lucky too because I don't see any distancing with B. I think it is because he is older, 25, and has had to leave for college and has lived away from home after college. If anything he seems more content and happy. He joined the choir at church last fall and has always had an abiding faith in God. I guess I will have to do the worrying for both of us. lol. I got teary at church tonight just watching him in the choir and knowing he won't be there in two months. Before he gets his haircut this week I am going to take tons of pictures and video. His hair is really long, like past his shoulders. He has grown it and given it to "Locks of Love" twice and was hoping it would be long enough before he left to donate it but he realized it wouldn't be long enough so he decided to get his hair cut short. At least I will be able to get used to it being short before he leaves. Now who is boring who tonight. Have a nice night. Kathy

Hi Kathy, That is really awesome that you have more time with your son before he leaves. That is so important.

I guess I'm lucky right now, because I really don't see Adam being distant just yet. It could be because most of his friends are getting ready to leave for college right now. He is spending time with them, but I know that next week, they will all be gone.

We have a lot to do around our house because we are listing it to sell in September. He will be working on some projects with me, like staining our fence, weeding, painting, etc.. I have so much to think about right now, that everything is just happening all at once. I think we have so much going on, that I'm having even a harder time realizing that Adam will be leaving so soon. He is the only one was has been home with me since February. In April, my oldest ds did move back home, but it's just for a few months so he can save money to move to Boston, with his gf in a couple of months. My dh has been working in Wash. DC and, living in Maryland, since February and I had to be home until he was offered a new job in DC. Two of my girls go to college and they just moved into an apartment together, here in NM and my oldest dd lives in Maryland with my 2 grandchildren, so that's my life in a nutshell right now. LOL Sorry, if I just bored you to death, but I'm sure that a big part of my moods are all of those factors lumped together.

I am really looking forward to tomorrow though. A few months ago, when I really started to think about my limited time with Adam, we planned a road trip. We are leaving tomorrow to drive to San Diego. I think Adam is really excited about it too. We are stopping first in Arizona to see the Tonto National Forest, where we will stay overnight and then continue on to CA on Tuesday. We have plans to tour the USS Midway, go to a San Diego Padres game, a concert (John Mayer is playing in Chula Vista) and the beach. It will just be Adam and me, alone. I'm so happy that we will have this time together and I think Adam is excited too. Funny thing is, that he said I could quiz him on his DEP stuff, in the car, since we will be in there for hours.

Hi Betsy, Yes, I cry too when I am by myself thinking about all the times he won't be home. I then tell myself take one day at a time. Don't think ahead or you can't appreciate the present. I am really enjoying him at home with us now. This is the longest stretch since he went off to college. Unfortunately it will be that much harder to let go of him when he leaves. I do know though that he is doing what he wants to do, has worked hard to get in shape, and is excited and happy to be joining the navy. That is really a great place to be and I am happy and proud for him. Have a good evening. Kathy

Hi Allison's mom, You can go to the swearing in when he leaves for BC. I would ask the recruiter about it. We live 3 hours away from MPES where my son will be sworn in and I want to go but my son says he wants us to stay home. Too emotional for him. So we will drop him off at the recruiting station, hug and kiss him, say goodbye, and try not to cry so he won't break down. It makes me cry just thinking about it. The recruiter will then drive him, one other depper swearing in, and any others going to MPES for a job. Go to the swearing in if it is ok with your daughter. I have heard it is wonderful.
Dawn, I have my good days and bad and usually determined by how my son is acting. If he appears stressed I worry. If he is happy and excited then so am I. He told me today that he is getting his hair cut short this week. Boo Hoo. He is getting ready inside and out and now when I look at him I will already start to see my navy son. He is running every day now and is looking real good. I was really worried about that when he signed up in May but it is all working out. He still needs to memorize stuff but that shouldn't be a problem. Do I sound like a proud mother or what. lol. Kathy
