Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

@DJ'S Mom, That is true about being able to go to the gate with your sailor. I was able to do that once my son was check in at the airport prior to leaving to RTC. All you need to do is while he is checking in present your Id card/Drivers license to the flight attendent at "Check In" and they will give you a Temporary 1 day pass. I'm unsure on how many can go with them though. My husband and toddler we're able to go with me. I just think it varies on airport. Good luck!

Brandensmom, my son arrived at RTC 9/15. We received his box & letter the same day. But I think the letter was delivered faster because we live in Illinois.

Redmittens, I felt the same way. Was so surprised how emotional I got the day my son left. its been a couple weeks now. I can tell you that it has gotten easier.

@DJ's mom:  Your welcome.  I also want to share that I recently read that if your sailor is flying out after PIR and you plan to go to the airport to see them off that you can get a "pass" from the ticket desk to be able to go through security with him/her and go with them to their gate.  I am not sure if that is true or not and I will be calling the airport once I know for sure.  I know I do want to go to the airport so that not only can I give another hug and kiss (I'll take all that I can get) but also so that I can give him his cell phone, some comfy undies (LOL) and if he is wanting a small carry on with some of his things to bring to A-School that he was not allowed to have in boot camp.   Not sure if anyone else heard about the pass to the gate or not.

My boy left today. I have read all your posts about crying and emotions and I smugly thought I'd be immune.......but let me tell you, it is AWFUL. TERRIBLE. I'm SO SAD. This leaving for Boot Camp is a HUGE BIG AWESOME WONDERFUL SCARY thing.

If you have a future Sailor who is going to be in an 800 division (or a recruit in an 800 division), let me know in a comment on my My Page or in a PM (or comment in a friend request) and I will connect you with others with loved ones who will later be in the same division. DON'T openly post your future Sailor's contract or division number. Those with a future Sailor (or recruit) in a regular division or 900 division can post the division number and can post the contracted rating or field unless it is for one of the Spook ratings, but those with a loved one with a special ops contract should NEVER post that openly. See OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) and 800 and 900 Divisions.

Oh yea....and that his next call will probably be in another 2 weeks around Oct. 10th

I also received a call this morning.  Ship II Div. 374. He shipped out 9/10 - so was 2 weeks wait until first call.  He told me that things are good.  A lot of folding clothes, marching, and classes.  He said he's tired but it's bootcamp - so thats expected.  It sucks but he likes it.  He mentioned that one of the RDC's was actually on one of the ships that saved Capt. Phillip - he thought that was really cool. Mentioned that the food was good - breakfast is usually eggs, hashbrowns, and bacon.  (Thankfully that's what he likes).  He did not need to get his wisdom teeth pulled (I was concerned about that because I know that he will need them out eventually). They get their winter blues this upcoming week.  He's happy that they'll be graduating in their winter blues.  He mentioned that they should have 3 ribbons following graduation - one for post 9/11, one for shooting, and one for graduation.  He said the underwear they provide are pretty uncomfortable (if going to graduation may want to bring some to give to them at the airport prior to them flying out or once they get to A-School in GL).  No word on Battlestations date.  I am not sure if they could give out the date once they know.  They already started standing watch - he has his second rotation tonight from 4-6a.  They are only doing 2 hours I guess rather than the usual 4 hours.  I noticed during the call at first that he repeated most of the questions before answering - I'm thinking must be a learning technique for listening skills that they do.  (repeat the question, answer).  It actually sounded very mature.  He also mentioned that if only he had known before how to fold his clothes as he does now he would have had so much more space in his closet.  LOL.  I am already waiting anxiously for his next letter and call.  I am so excited for him and proud :)

Smartscoutmom25, Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) will let you know what is happening and what to expect. You will know the PIR date when you receive The Form Letter.
