Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I've heard from Brandon today on and off.  He is currently at O'Hare for another hour or so waiting for the bus.  He sounds good.  Said the flight was fine, that Chicago was rainy and that he had a good lunch.  He was thinking of trying to catch a short nap at the USO before they have to leave so I hope that he was able to do that.  I'm holding up pretty good.  I get choked up over small odd things, but I haven't had a big cry since I got into bed last night and remembered him turning back at the door of the hotel and waving to me - oh no, I'm tearing up again!  Anyway - for today, for right now, things are ok.

AubreysMom, I loved the comment regarding earning the extra discount due to your tears. (LoL) So glad you were able to be there for your SR. This is an exciting time for them and for us.

Glad your daughter made it there and she starting texting you when she landed.  Cody is leaving Portland, OR at 2:50 tomorrow, so I don't think we will get a call or text for awhile.  Looks like the flight is about 5 hours.

Congrats all you moms with SRs leaving today/tomorrow.....one more hurdle over. This one is the hardest.... I'm home now. Aubrey flew out at 6:20am pacific time - talked to her at 11:30am pacific time when she landed in Chicago (chilly and very rainy btw). We texted for about an hour after that. Then she texted "bye. Love you." And turned off her phone. She's probably at bc right now diving into the chaotic first days fray........ Haven't gotten the 'official' "I'm here." phone call but that is okay. I know she made it in good health - a bit tired and admittedly nervous of what to expect in a few hours but otherwise good. On  my way home, a 2+ hour drive, I cried off and on -a few times had to pull over. Then, I treated myself to a bit of a shopping spree at the outlet mall I pass. That helped a bit even though the clerks kept asking me what was wrong (more tears - Aubrey and I loved our shopping treks together and I was remembering her in a stroller there so many years ago.....). The tears earned me an additional 20% and $15 off my entire purchase though so that was a moment of a good laugh. (Aubrey will enjoy reading that part in my first letter to her....)

Jenn: Enjoy this evening's dinner with Brandon. What time is his flight? I got up at 4am to make sure I got that last bit in as Aubrey and her band of fellow travelers walked out the door in the dark to board the bus. That was SO worth it. Those young'un's will be all grown up when we see them next - in a good way.

I think we are grieving the certain end of childhood as the door opens to new adulthood........... A new chapter to make more happy memories......

Love and hugs to all of you....my blue candle is burning right now - for my own, for yours, and those who had no one there to hug and kiss them so-long.....

Thanks everyone - you guys are so awesome.  Brandon swore in this morning.  I almost missed it.  I was at MEPS in plenty of time and waiting, but they didn't tell him I was there and he thought I would come when he called me to tell me what time the swearing in was going to happen - even though I told him that I would be there without hearing from him (I sure hope he listens better in bootcamp!).  Luckily I asked at the desk and the really nice lady ran me back just in time to see the swearing in.  I'm sad on and off but will get to see him tonight for dinner - he flies out tomorrow so it's still not real to me.  But he is ready and I am so proud of him.  At least I know I get one more hug and kiss.  Thank you to all of you for being here - you guys are so awesome.  It sounds like quite a few of us may be attending PIR at the same time since so many of our kids have and will ship out recently.

Thank you!  I didn't think it would be this hard, I have been doing really well.  He also is the middle child who graduated in June, but he has been working with me all summer long so it's been alot of fun having him around.  I know it's the best thing for him because he really wasnt ready for college right away (actually turned down wrestling scholarships).  My youngest son is having a super tough time with it all.  He is 12

I cried all day after the swearing in, Itseaya.  My husband took me out to lunch and a was hysterical the whole time, with people looking at me. lol.  It was rough!!  My son is my middle child and he took a year off after high school so he was home a lot!!  I have gotten better though, still have my moments!  Probably harder on them then on us..you are in my thoughts!
