While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

It must be a relief, albeit a bittersweet one, to be past that last hug phase and know she's well on her way in her big adventure.... 7 days left for me. The tension is heavy... Hope you get that official "I'm here" call soon and you hear excitement in her voice :-)

From what I've read, that date could possibly change within a 1-3 week range if your recruit is waylaid through an injury, illness, or didn't make a battle station.... Good luck tomorrow!! Warm hugs to get you through the first big day of the new adventure........

It's funny how were all in the same boat as far as our kids leaving in September. Tomorrow my mom will drop off my daughter at the recruiter's late a.m. She will be going at MEPS at 2pm then she will spend the night at a hotel. On Wednesday she returns to MEPS and my mom and I will be there to swear in. It's bitter sweet. You will miss them but it's beautiful to see them start their lives, spread their wings. I'm very excited for her especially because it was a difficult journey and to finally know that it was come to an end and now the date is here for her to leave, it's very exciting! My daughter is nervous and excited as well.

But then when I'm alone - I'm usually driving somewhere - I get all choked up and start to cry - I know, safe right? I'll have to message you my phone # before you come down next week in case we have the chance to meet up. Sorry about the ex. Mine is the same way - although he is in Japan so I'll give him a bit more leeway. But he is retired Navy so although he knows that PIR is a big deal he doesn't attach as much importance to it as I do. I agree with you that it's not a big deal to me that he isn't there but it breaks my heart to know that he's letting down our son. It is really nice though that you have been able to spend time with her at work. That is a nice memory to carry with you until you get that first letter!

Wanda - I LOVE the Navy bear - so cute!! That is just a great idea. Glad you had such a nice party. My son was lukewarm about my planning and hosting one - he said he didn't care but after all was said and done he thanked me a few times for having everyone over so he had the chance to talk to them and told me that I was a pretty awesome mom. I took pictures of him with everyone there so I can send a few as a part of a few letters that I write to him.

Comment by WandaG on September 19, 2011 at 7:04pm: Well, we had my daughter's farewell party this past Sunday. It was just the immediate family about 10 of us. It went really well. The weather was great, the food was lovely and my girl was surprised with the decorations, balloons and the lovely navy bear I made for her at Build-A-Bear. She was very pleased and she got to spend a few days before that with her friends as well.
