Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Important note: Learn the difference between the terms "leave" and "liberty."

Liberty = weekend/evening off of work. Usually no longer than 72 hours. Sailors often must return to base to stand duty in the middle of their weekend, (it's only for a few hours in boot camp, but is an entire day in the fleet). Sailors also have limited range of travel. On PIR weekend it's 50 miles (and they mean it! 51 miles could get your sailor in a LOT of trouble) and in the fleet it could be as little as 50 miles, or as much as 300 miles.

You may have heard the term "Cinderella liberty." That's what they get in boot camp - they have to return to base by a designated curfew each night - being even 1 minute late can result in harsh punishment.

Leave is the same as "paid vacation." Sailors get 4 weeks of leave per year, usually no more than 14 days at a time. They MUST inform the Navy of their travel plans, cannot change plans without informing the Navy, and leave can be cancelled at any time according to the needs of the Navy.

Just a note - PIR is not graduation. Recruits graduate about a week earlier, and their official "graduation" is called the Capping Ceremony, in which they cease being recruits and become sailors. This happens immediately after Battlestations 21. Many recruits are not a part of PIR for a number of reasons - the Navy considers them to be finished with boot camp after Battlestations and sees no reason to include them in the ceremony. Some watch PIR from the stands, others simply never attend, and go straight to A-school. Several recruits who began training with my son did this - they were injured, and rather than returning them to divisions, they finished training in the medical unit, and never got a PIR weekend. Also, recruits who take Battlestations the night before PIR are not allowed to take part out of concern they will pass out from exhaustion, but they are allowed to take liberty.

Divisions scheduled to PIR on Thanksgiving weekend typically PIR the Wednesday before TG, and are granted a 5-day PIR weekend. They still have to return to base each night, but they do get a long weekend. It is the only Wednesday PIR of the year.

Again, this is how things have been done in the past, always subject to change.

It is difficult to predict when any given recruit will PIR until you get their form letters. They may be added to the previous week's divisions to fill out a small division, or they may be held an extra week because there aren't enough recruits to fill the week's divisions.

I always recommend using a three-week window. She could PIR Nov. 18, 22, or Dec. 2

Hi Everyone, my daughter leaves 9/21 for bootcamp. Her rating is IC. Boy have we've been busy getting ready for her departure plus I'm giving her a farewell BBQ with the family. It's amazing how time flew by. I'm very excited for her but I'm also going to miss her. She's 23 yrs old so she's not a baby but she will always be my baby:o) I took the day off from work so I can seeher swear in at MEPS.

Does anyone have any idea more or less when their PIR date will be? I was thinking maybe Dec 2nd since we have the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Hello Everyone!

I am in the process of starting the 11/04/2011 PIR group. I will be working on it this weekend. Should be up and running this Monday or Tueday (hopefully earlier!). We are seeing how the TG is forming due to the past holiday weekend.

If this has been something you have been thinking about I am asking you to hold off so we don't have duplicate groups.I have a mom as of right now but will still take a friend request (I'll ALWAYS look at those anytime!) with a private message from anyone interested and just put you in line!

Please be patient ladies...stay on here and keep reporting in with your Ship/DIV numbers and PIR dates! Thank you for your help!

We'll be looking for the mom/wife/GF etc. who will be interested in creating the 11/04/2011 PIR group. Probably someone who's recruit is arriving between 09/08 - 09/13 to RTC to be on the safe side. So ladies if it is something you think you'd be interested in...Friend me and send me a message.

Please remember that when I post dates of when your SR may PIR...it is not exact. I am basing it on the earliest reports and making an "educated" guess on the cutoff date for a TG.

I just had a mom in the 10/28 group who's SR arrived at RTC on August 25th. That would make BC 9 weeks for her SR. It can be anywhere from 7.5 weeks to 9 weeks.

However, we like to try to get the PIR groups going so if you DO know the date (got your form letter already, some of you get it real early...lucky dogs!) I really hope you consider starting the next one!

Thank You!

If your SR left between 08/31 and probably 09/07 this may be your PIR group (have to see how the holiday affected the groups):

PIR 10/28/2011

Right now we know it starts with Division 355 Performing Division 950 will be in this TG.

So if you have received your form letter (or your Recruiter has given you this info, sometimes this is not always correct as recruits can change ships))with a Division number of 355 or higher this is your PIR group.

I suggest joining it. If it ends up NOT being your PIR group you just join the one that is!
