Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!
If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)
Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)
Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.
Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.
The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.
After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.
Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)
**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Most grocery stores have phone cards in their gift card sections. Make sure you activate it before sending it to boot camp. And do NOT buy off-brands. They tend to add all sorts of charges so it really cuts down on the actual call time. Get a well-known name, like AT&T.
Diana, hope you get your call soon. It's sweet that your younger son wants to be man of the house. Even if they are not in the same group, we can still cheer each other on!
My daughter and son in law are coming home tomorrow and our family dinner is on Saturday. Greer High football game (son's best friend still plays) tomorrow night and still some packing and planning to do. Need to take care of the POA this weekend; I think our bank does notarizing. No passport; hopefully he can get one later before he has to go overseas. Need to get a phone card also. Anyone know where you can still get one? So few people use landlines now. Monday is really coming fast; I feel guilty that I have to work when he's here. But life goes on...
Seeing him this morning helped alot actually. We spent alot more time together this morning than I thought we would. He has meet 3 other guys who are going into the same rate as him so hopefully they will all be together in BC, that will make it easier (hopefully) for them. Now I wait for his call tonight and then his box with clothes, shoes, etc.. I think it would have been alot harder on me if I hadn't been able to see him this morning one last time.
He is flying out today, from south Texas to Illinois, straight north. His swearing in is this morning and I am going to that. Taking my younger son to school and then going straight there. I'm hoping that it doesn't take longer than an hour to get there. Should get the I'm here call this evening or night. Will let you know. I probably won't get much sleep tonight.
Goodness Ladies, September is here.... Diana, how are you holding up? Your son left a day earlier? Have you heard from him yet? I supposed I'd better be prepared for that happening as well. I plan on taking a day off when I know whether my daughter (ship date Sept. 28) actually leaves home that day or the day before (probably to San Diego) and then flies out the 28th. Anyone know how that works - or is it all an 'around that date' kind of thing?
Currently, my daughter is camping and visiting up the coast of CA. Her last day as a park ranger was Saturday. She went camping in Malibu with some ranger buds and decided to just keep driving up the coast and seeing friends away at college along the way. Never mind she's shipping out in 28 days and has done NOTHING by the way of sorting/packing her things, renewing her passport, getting a power of attorney, etc. etc. ....AND, our send off party is next weekend..... Egads.
There is no one day when their week starts. New arrivals spend at least 3-4 days in processing, sometimes more. Some of the poor suffering souls in December boot camp spend 2 full weeks in holding before their training starts.
Their training week can start any day of the week, and it's spread out - two to four divisions per day, depending on how many divisions formed the week before. Mostly they begin training the week after they arrived.
There are almost always divisions starting each day, Monday through Thursday, holidays excepted. Sometimes, in very small PIR groups with 5-6 divisions, they only start on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Very large PIR groups (I've seen as many as 17 divisions in a group) may have three or four divisions starting everyday of the week. I *think* 20 is the most they can handle in a PIR group but they never have that many.
