Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Ladies, if you have a Hobby Lobby near you, they have a great Navy scrapbook and a lot of military themed stickers too.  My son is a sailor in A school and I am working on one for his A school graduation.

I'm Betsy and a "veteran" mom like Fireteamleaderwife.  I've been MIA on here for a little while, but I'm trying to catch up now and will be here along with FTLW to help you.

Ah, I LOVE the idea of the Navy scrapbooking theme. I am going to put cards and stationary around on clipboards with the envelops so people can write Aubrey a note. Then, I'll mail one a day with my own while she's in bootcamp. I got that idea from another mom on N4M which I thought was fabulous. Having your DIL gifted with created the scrapbook is a lovely idea. Banditosmom: Yea for you getting into the tat spirit! lol Sweet. I may just borrow that idea at our send off party Sept. 10....maybe I can find some anchors or something else 'Navy-ish'.  I didn't know SC just legalized tattoos jacketfan....? I grew up there - went to USC in Columbia after high school in Columbia as well. @Jacketfan: One week? Oh my.....my heart races for you. 30 days isn't enough for me. Aubrey and her younger brother and I hung out watching Toy Story this evening - followed by the MTV music awards - lol. There is a pervasive feeling in the air of hanging on to every moment we can...

Night friends. We'll get through this....

Yes, what a beautiful picture!  I went shopping today for Son's going away party.  And in honor of you two ladies, I bought a packet of temporary tattoos!  LOL thought it would be fun to put them on at the party, as so many sailors get them.

I also found a beautiful scrap/photo book with US Navy on front as well as lots of Navy themed scrapbooking items.  Hubby doesn't understand the idea of having people do scrapbooking at the party, so I am wrapping it up and presenting to DIL tonight.  She can then chose to keep full control over the book, or bring it to the party to start the book.

hmmmm I might just cry tonight, may be last dinner with just the 4 of us for quite awhile.  We are going to the place that we had the rehearsal dinner for their wedding.

AubreysMom...I'm not big on lots of ink, but a few artistic one that have meaning is fine to me.  I am mostly Scottish, but the Celtic hearts just seemed right.  I found a design online that is along the lines of what I want, just a little too much.  I prefer simple.   My other one is on my ankle and I got it just because I wanted it.  The weekend after he leaves, I am going to my daughter's; she lives near Charlotte and knows a good one there.  In SC, tattooing has only been legal for a few years, so I'd rather go to another state where it has been going on for a long time.  I wanted it done before he left, but it just didn't work out.  It's not really for him, anyway, but represents all of them.  My daughter will be going away to graduate school in a year, and she wants to go to Oklahoma, so it's not just him that's leaving.  I know how my mom felt when I got married and left for Wurtsmith AFB in Michigan (now closed); but then we didn't have computers and cell phones with long distance, there was only letters and occasional phone calls.  My countdown is now at 7 days; one week from tomorrow.

@jacketfan: I love the idea of the Celtic knot tattoo. I've been looking for one to represent my kids. I may borrow your design but with 3. Besides, I'm half Irish so it'll work! One of my student's parents this year is a great tattoo artist. We may just have to have a chat soon...perhaps before Aubrey ships off...

@Banditosmom: My daughter and I have tattoos. I got my first when we visited Australia together 5 years ago - it's of the Southern Cross constellation which you can only really see south of the Equator. She got hers the day she turned 18 'because she could'......lol  Her dad and I went to watch. I think the guys at the shop thought we were nuts. She and I also got our noses pierced (delicate studs) the year she turned 18 and I, 50. Now hers is gone but I'm keeping mine to remember the moment. I'm not big on being all tatted up but I love the fact you can do something meaningful and artful. I think I want something to represent my kids on my calf. My other tat is on my chest near my heart, barely seen unless I wear something super low cut or a swim suit.

Do our kids really know how much they mean to us? I often wonder...the things we do for them - like this forum, trying to make sure our adult kids are still standing firmly and securely on their paths....

Yes, start now.  I was only really able to change because a bunch of us at work all did the "Game On Diet"  rather strict, but all about changing habits.  We did it on and off for about a year.  Now I get grouchy if there are too many hours between meals.  So it really did change me.  They say it takes at least 4 weeks to change a habit, but I think that it is closer to a year.

On another note, son came by today.  He has been helping get the OLD Camaro ready for sale.  Had him stay for dinner, which was nice.  And we will meet up with him and DIL for a more relaxing dinner on Sunday.  I can't believe how soon he will  be across country.

The eating several meals thing really does work doesn't it? The cravings go away...it's keeping it up that's the hardeset.Same here...I know what to do...gotta do it! If it's one thing I would tell young folk...start NOW...because it is a lot harder later in life.

I only use one or two recipes from Biggest Loser, I think Rocco's are much more flavourful.  I also get Clean Eating magazine and have found a few winners in there.  Also enter the occassional recipe into SparkPeople, a Nutrition/Diet website, to find out the calorie content.  Biggest thing is we changed to 4-5 meals a day.  That helps to not splurge on the candy.  If I could cut out the nightly glass (es) of wine, maybe I would lose some more.....
