Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Mommie, I checked prices on flying and driving. For me it will be cheaper and much quicker to fly, I'm close to Galveston, TX so it would take me two days to get there and two to to get back. My younger son will be with me and he is too young to drive. I am planning on getting a hotel close to the Base and just take a shuttle or cab. My son's recruiter told him that I could get a bus pass for us so we could go into Chicago (as long as my recruit can go]. I am also planning on staying at a hotel that has free breakfast of some sort to try and save a little money.

Wanda, thanks for the information. I will check flights to both Chicago and Milwaukee and compare them. I will definetly keep the Flash Cab in mind also.

Leblanc - my son is the same way.  He is leaving for BC Sept. 28 and he's been working on the situps and pushups but I keep trying to get him out for get some running in and he just keeps saying "yeah, yeah, yeah - I'll get to it."  I run some too - not fast, but I offered to run with him a little but he hasn't really made it much of a priority.  As he has told me he knows he can do the run when he has to - but I keep trying to tell him that it would be better to be more prepared and able to run.  I want to do everything I can for him here to prepare him and then once he's there it's all on him.  I'm like you - he's my first to leave too - my daughter is still an infant so won't be going anywhere for a while - so this one
is really hard on me.  I always say to him that he's still my little boy.
Jacketfan - at first my son said he didn't want me to go to MEPs for the swearing in and he didn't want me to come to the hotel and take him out for dinner (we live close) - but he has since changed his mind.  I think he was nervous that my going wouldn't be ok and that he'd be the only one there with a mom hanging around - he has since talked to his recruiter and found out that it happens more than he thought so he is ok with it (at least for this week).  So your son may change his mind and want you there.

jacketfan24 my son will also meet with the recruiter on the 5th and leave out the next day but I thought he sd he swore in the day he signed up or maybe Im getting confused. Again this is all new to us so maybe he just took an oath or something. I am getting alot of useful info off this site but I'm under the impression that anyone who arrives in great lakes for boot camp on Sept 6 will graduate together but I definetly could be wrong about that. I am a runner so I have been trying to get him come out with me so he will be prepared.  I don't think he will have a problem once he starts training but it's like pulling teeth to get him to start! I would much rather him show up at boot camp already having all his physical activities accomplished at that point than having to work on them once he gets there. I think he just believes Sept 6 is alot farther away than it really is. He's kinda always been one who waits til the last second for things.

@Leblanc74: It's really hard, isn't it?  He is my 3rd to leave home, but it doesn't make it any easier!  I am doing a decent job of not showing him too much of my nervousness, but he still knows because he knows me so well.  He told me that he has to meet the recruiter on Sept. 5 and they will go to MEPS that night and he will leave from there the next morning...I was hoping to go see him swear in but I think he doesn't want me to; it will be easier on him to say his goodbyes here.  I plan to have a good cry after he's gone (and maybe eat a lot of chocolate!) but I think I'll be okay once I get through that.  I hope so, anyway.  I still see him as a little kid, too.  I have a feeling I always will.  Since they leave the same day, it's possible they will graduate together!  My son has been swimming and running frequently, but he is in pretty good shape physically, so he should be okay with that part of boot camp.  He is actually looking forward to it!

Hi Jacketfan24. My son Joshua is also leaving for great lakes on sept 6.I think as time gets closer the realization of what he is about to take on is starting to freigten him a bit.I will also be a wreck once he leaves bc sometimes I can be inconsolable now and hes still here. He is my first baby to leave my house and even though he is 19 i feel like hes still my 5 year old that im taking to tee ball practice. We have no one in our family that has been in the military so this is all new to us. I ve been reading that the better he is prepared physically that part of boot camp will be alot easier on him. He also has a high school sweetheart that is like part of our family and i know she gonna be my shoulder to cry on as well as my shoulder for her. Just hoping to get through the 8 weeks without mentally falling apart.

Diana, sorry I could not respond sooner. Since I started working again I have not had much time to check this site.

The answer to your question, Milwaukee airport is closer than the other two airports in Chicago. Flash Cab will pick you up from any airport. They also have a shuttle service that can take you from your hotel to the graduation.

As far as which airport is cheaper to fly in I can't answer that it depends the time of year when you go and which airlines. I plan to fly Southwest, it's generally cheaper for me. If the graduation ends up being in Nov (the week b4 Thanksgiving), it may cost me $362 round trip to fly in from Long Island, NY. But it's really hard to say. I will know more once a PIR date is established.

I hope that helps :o)

What is 900 division?  Band?  is it only for Bootcamp or all of his career?
