Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi Jenn...my son is leaving Sept. 6th and I have had a hard time with it as well.  I cried nonstop for the first few days, but the closer it gets, the more excited he gets.  He is so excited about the whole experience, even boot camp!  He's been running and swimming, but he was already in really good shape, so it's mostly been just getting used to running a lot.  He ran track and played football, but that was short spurts.

We are planning to drive to GL for PIR...but I do plan to find someone to take us to PIR that morning; I've heard it's preferable to parking and walking, and it will be cold when he graduates!

I wanted to share some information I found out recently regarding travel to attend PIR.
I was contemplating whether or not to rent a car from the airport or pay for a car service to take me to the hotel from the airport. Well, I was pricing Budget Rental which has good rates. The cars I was looking at averaged between $114 - $175 for 3 day rental plus I averaged in another $150 for fuel. Well, Gurnee Flash Cab can pick me and my husband up at Milwaukee airport and take us to the Residence Inn Marriott in Waukeegan for $57.00 and $54 to return to the airport. That's a much better deal and I don't have to deal with the hassle of refueling before I return the rental car. Also, they charge $3.00 per person to drop you off at the Naval Training Base from Residence Inn.
Just something to keep in mind if you plan to attend PIR.

Hi everyone! My daughter is leaving for bootcamp on Sept 21st. We are very excited for her to begin her new life! She has been attending the Dep meetings and working out! We are very proud of her. She has come a long way.

Hi Jenn.  I know how you feel.  My son is leaving on Sept. 15th and I've been trying to adjust.  It's not easy - at all.  I'm having a hard time with it too.  This site has been a blessing and does help to ease my anxiety over the whole thing.  We'll get through it.

Hi everyone - my name is Jenn and my son will be leaving for BC on September 29th.  He is very excited - although also nervous - mostly about the physical part.  He's made friends at his DEP meetings - one of whom will be leaving on the same day - so I'm glad about that.  He's my oldest and was my only child until my daughter was born recently and after his dad and I divorced years ago he is the one who I spent all my time with - so this is going to be a huge adjustment for me.  I'm so proud of him but I'm already dreading his leaving in 3 months.  I'm glad to have found this site and other people to talk to who understand.

Crisanthomom (cute name)...mine is going to be a corpsman also, but leaves Sept. 6.  They must have new recruits arriving constantly, or else they have slightly different dates but end up in the same division based on travel time or something.  I'm not sure.  Have found out since that the corpsman school is moving to San Antonio, so that is where he will go.  Thought we'd have the weekend with him at GL since his school was there also, but now he could leave at any time so I don't know what to expect.  We are driving there for grad so we can leave after he does.  This site has done a lot to keep me from being completely overwhelmed; I am a control freak so knowing what will happen helps me cope with it.

Going on a trip, thought I would read one of these books.  But they don't have them in Kindle version.  I clicked on the link to tell the publisher that you want this in Kindle format.  .... ah well, now I have to decide if I want to order one for when I return.  Do you recommend one over the other?

My son informed us tonight that he has left 2Sep open for us to have a family going away party for him... He will have his work one separately....

I was going to the backyard thing but I was worried about the weather.  I didn't want to wind up having to bring everybody indoors. I just took the first step - I finally ordered the invitations.  Now I can't be in denial anymore!

I really need to get on it, too.  I think my backyard, but them I have to find a place for his dog to go, since she gets very excited and is too big to jump on people, but I can't think of a good alternative location, since I can't afford to pay rental charges right now.  I'll come up with something...it will only be 30 people or so, anyway.
