Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Patti, I am sorry that you weren't able to witness the swearing in. Our friend's son left on 18 August and they went to the hotel and stayed the night so they could be with him at MEPS in the morning to witness his swearing in. They were told they couldn't be there which was untrue. We have new female recruiters in our office and she wouldn't let them be there. I called the Captain to make sure we could be there and we can and we will be there. We will be there early just in case too. How upsetting to have them swear him in when they knew you would be there, shame on them. Then again, that is the Navy. Congrats!!

Jessica B-I think I will wait for the mail regarding my son's address, so far my son's recruiter has not been very helpful and has given my son poor advice. I'm glad to hear others have had a good experience with seeing their son take the oath. We were told to be at MEPS by 9:30, we got there at 9:00, just to be safe. We were the only parent's there and our son was the only one going to the Navy that day. They said they would call us when it was time (and we sat in front of the main desk). We sat there for 2 hours. My husband even went to the desk again to ask and they said they would let us know. Our son came out later with a soft drink and said "oh they swore me in already". So much for our "Kodak moment"

Tobi... Tiffany said she does nothing but look forward to meals! This from a girl who had to put weight on to make it in bc. Food sounds wonderful!! I wonder if Tiff will come out with some meat on her bones? I sure hope so!

PattiM.. I was so excited to get my box, then sad, then the official letter came, happy again, then sad... now happy! lol first few weeks are the hardest and I didn't believe Jessica, SOBE, Angie or Dianne... but they were right, it does get better!!

My son left on Sept 1, we got his "kid in a box" today. Looking forward to getting his address...the letter I have been writing to him each day since he left is getting quite long!

sorry I am tired I meant all 3 meats. I think she said also sausage gravy often.

Tiffsmom_ I am not sure. was thinking (as she said possible BS-21 last night) a ceremony would be in order this week. She is not going to do the whole PIR march in. She has opted for a private ceremony.

Yes Kay said breakfast is amazing, everyday there is sausage, bacon, ham (all 4 meats), eggs, usually waffles, pancakes and or french toast and of course the fruit. She loves fruit, so not sure why so much watermelon. Maybe a habit or was something they could add for fluid during the hot weather and it just stuck. Her words stay away far-far away from the coffee. She said they sing a cadence about the coffee, and it fits... but yes if you are not picky she said you should eat well.

Our son loves to eat and he loves fruit!! He will be in paradise when he gets to BC! Too funny..............he has told me that "they feed you really good."

Tobi... when is the new PIR? My daughter, when she called said she eats watermelon at every meal! LOL I'm worried though, it gives her nosebleeds, weird I know!!
