Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

TiffsMom - I'm glad he has such a great support group around him! I'm sure he'll be fine and maybe he'll get a chance to see your daughter for a second...my son leaves next Tuesday - I've never seen anyone so - to quote him "chillaxed" about this process. I hope he realizes what he's getting into, but with a former Marine for a step dad and a Sailor for a grandfather he's been told what to expect, just not sure if it's sinking in.

Diana... he's not actually my son, he's my daughters boyfriend. She left 4 weeks ago for bc in GL and he left today :( He was one Nervous Nelly, I'll tell you!! Poor little guy! I just texted to see if he was on the plane yet, but he didn't text back, all the flights are messed up here in Houston... not sure where he is LOL

DRoberts:As far as I know, they usually go through processing first, then they swearing in and then shipped to where they need to be. We will be doing our son's swearing in on 21 September, he will go through all that he needs to do medical wise then go to the swearing in where family will be. After he will get ready to go to the airport to fly to GL.

TiffsMom - Thanks for posting that you weren't going to be able to make your son's swearing in. I've been fretting about the fact I won't make it for quite some time - I live in Florida, he's in Maryland. Of course I thought his dad would be there, but he won't either. Fortunately his grandparents will be able to attend, and it will be extra special since his grandfather served in the Navy. We'll be texting like mad until he arrives at GL that's for sure!

Oh and James' mom, dad and sister are with him... it that sounded like I just left this poor kid all alone! LOL He's going to "look" for Tiffany see if he see's her... hahahaha
Comment by Tiff'sMom (Sharon) on September 7, 2010 at 12:53pm
Well... will not be making James' swearing in.. but I am texting him. It is raining so bad here in Houston, I didn't want to risk getting stuck downtown and not making it back to work! I sure hope this doesn't make their bus be late getting to the airport either. When Tiffany was there 4 weeks ago, the bus left MEPS around 3:30-4:00, so maybe they will get them off a little earlier due to the rain... but.. flights are also being delayed, this is so sad for James.... he is a NERVOUS Wreck, bless his little heart!

swearing in could take as long as 45 mins (or more) the person that does this may speak and this could take a while, our speaker was about 40 mins alone!!
