Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

let me say that before my daughter left we fought ad that is typical. She however did not say no mail... he will see that mail is sometimes the only thing that keeps him going. They do not understand until there what a change and how isolated they become. Yes some of the RDC's pick on the guys for colored envelopes and cards but never letters just no writing or stickers on the envelopes beyond the addresses. My son just told me he wished he could already leave. He is ready, my daughter however was not ready when she left. May be harder for girls IDK. Just understand that in the next month things may seem so hard and stressful, but in this site bootcamp for moms and then your PIR group is your stress relief. We all go through it and feel every thing the same way. Good luck, I am still stressed over my daughter, she has PIR on the 13th of Aug. Then do this all over again in Sept.

My son leaves Sep 7th. I think mentally he is already there. I sometimes feel he is distancing himself from us and other times he is just normal. Today he told me that he doesn't want me go send any cards or even letters. He has heard that they can get a hard time on their mail. He has told me that 8 weeks isn't that long. I'm not happy about it, but he is adament about it. Boot camp will encompass his birthday too. We have always been very close--it will be very hard for me. Maybe he will change his mind.

Hi, my son leaves on the 21st. We are from Ohio.
I also wanted to add that yes they (mail) are held about 2-3 weeks but also they will suddenly get mail about every other day about the 4th week in. Do not do what we have done!! We sent all letters on Wednesday thinking that they would be there for Sat. That was great until the mail changed. So now my daughter who left in June thinks we are not mailing her!! Sadly she passes pass out so she fells saddened at mail time. Now we just put in mail as we write. Lesson learned for my son, he will get mail normally I guess. They Navy does seem to be behind, my call Monday said her letters she had just gotten were dated still in June!!

I can';t believe it is getting this close and still no one going to boot camp in the Cardinal's company has checked in...so either it is a company of 1 or no one else is as nervous as me. Last year they had 92 young sailor recruits in Cardinal
Company. Hellllooooo anyone out there!!!!

Lynne - That's cool. We are Cardinal fans and my son would have loved that. We actually live about 90 miles from GL but our recruiting office take the deppers to Milwaukee and they come back down to Chicago. Less busy I guess. He leaves on the 28th of Sept.

Hi All: My son will be leaving for boot camp September 2nd with Cardinal Company...anyone here in Cardinal Company....he actually goes to St. Louis August 31 so I can't decide if that make him an August BC person or a September BC person. His company all meet in St. Louis I guess, spend 3 days there, get sworn in at the ball game then to Great Lakes, but technically there boot camp starts when they get to St. Louis. It is all confusing. lol

Thanks JB's Mom. I am very proud of him and soon I will be able to say that I am a "Sailor's Proud Mom." He is looking forward to having a fun summer and then heading out.

Our son, Diego graduated from High School with High Honors on Sunday. He received a Commendation for being in the DEP from the Recruiting Office, the US Marine Scholastic Excellence Award. There were a couple of other things too, but didn't have anything to do with the military. He had no idea he was going to receive them, the students don't know what awards they will receive until Honors Convocation night. Graduation Day was a truly proud day for us. We took photos (in the rain) and then came back to our house for a great afternoon with my sister and her boys as well as son's girlfriend's family. It was an awesome day together. Now, we are going to enjoy the summer before he goes off to BC on 21 September. He will be working on some farms to earn some spending money and enjoy as much as he can before he leaves. I can say I am one proud mama!
