Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

DODA - sorry for the confusion - we're in Lake City, FL, not PCB. We're looking to possibly move more towards Jacksonville since our son will be stationed there when he's finished with BC and A school - and our older son is looking to move that direction as well. Probably some time next year, depending on job availability for us (There isn't much here in LC unless you have a medical background or law enforcement).

Next question - are any of you planning a "going away" party/gathering for your depper before they ship out? I know we're planning to go to Jacksonville when they will do the final signing of the Navy contract for our son and his swearing in (We weren't able to go when he went back in January), so I'll be able to take some pics for the scrapbook, but I was just wondering if anyone else is planning some kind of special send-off. I know September is still a little bit out there to plan, but we don't have family here, so I want to make sure to give them time to make arrangements to come down if they can.

Josh's mom,

I forgot to addresst the "metal detecting" that we saw there. We would take a walk on the beach every morning and we always saw this guy doing just that. He would be in chest high water with his ear phones on and searching. One morning we even saw a couple of dolphins near by. That was pretty cool. We will never know if he found anything, but are pretty sure he should have at some point.

Yes, it was Treasure Island, FL. It was so nice just to take some time and relax, our K's just loved it. We took one day to be busy and then enjoyed the beach. Hubby has cousins in St. Pete so we spent some time with them too. Great vacation.

Diego spoke with his recruiter this morning in regards to not receiving USNA or NROTC to see what his options of being "enlisted" were. The meeting was a positive one and that is a plus. They told him he could re-apply again next year and even have a chance after "A" school to become an "Officer." That is a relief, he is one that researches things to the fullest and has stepped up and taken care of things on his own. He keeps us in the loop though and that is good. He will now finish his senior year, playing baseball, and stay in shape before going to BC on 21 September.

Sharon - Treasure Island as in Panama City Beach - Treasure Island Condo - or Treasure Island, FL? LOL (I just Googled the latter - didn't realize there was a TI, FL!). We recently moved from Ohio to Florida. A good move on our part since this past winter appears to have been one of the worst in the last 10 years or so. It was cold here, but nothing like it was up there!

Our older son has since found a young lady he's planning to marry and our younger son enlisted into the Navy. Definitely a good move all the way around! (That, and I'm a southern girl, too - grew up in the Atlanta area - couldn't deal with the snow). Have a great evening!

Doda and Jtm............thanks for the respones. We don't need to take away his truck, loving called "Big Red." Diego does very well with school, just wants to be out to start his life.

We stayed in Treasure Island on the beach, great motel with great sunsets and views. We loved the weather, returned home to MI. last night and when I had to take the younger two to school, we didn't like having "frost" on the windows. We want to go back to FL. We will be looking into making a move...................

I have to agree with Doda on the cure for senoritis. We finally did that too and he had to attend Saturday detention for tardies which was supervised by his Engilish teacher. He gets all his homework done and checked over by her. He only has two classes he has to pass and this is one. I don't mind him being tardy if it means he has to do homework with the teacher on Saturday. lol. Joshua's mom - our son's rate is IT. He could not stand the idea of college and he is really good with computers. (has gotten him into trouble a few times, lol). This is the rate he wanted. He will be active duty. It is a good plan for him. Have a good weekend all of you!

Hello ladies, just had to laugh about the "senioritis" as our son is going through the same things. He really wants to be done with high school, didn't want to even do the senior year. He will be leaving for BC on 21 September then "A" school for "Nuke" in S.C. He is looking forward to starting and getting out of MI. We are on Spring break and took the family on vacation to FL. Best week of weather and we are so happy and blessed for that. Back home next week and start planning his grad party and year end stuff. Anyone else on a "DEPPER" leaving on 21 September?

Doda, Jtm & Joshua's mom: My son and second sailor will report on Sept 27th. So my boy will be joining your son's too. I have a daughter in C school for IS at Dam Neck Virginia. Our son will be going there also as the same rate. He graduated last year and is in his second semester of college, senioritis never ends. He was offered an ROTC scholarship and turned it down because he didn't want to spend the next 4 years in school.

Doda and Jtm1987 - my son's report date is Sept. 30, so our boys will all be arriving around the same time. He goes to Pensacola for A training, as well. What field are your sons going in to and will they be a reservist or active duty? Joshua's area is Aircraft Structural Mechanic, reservist - unless they offer something full-time before he ships out.

Thank goodness we don't have to deal with the senioritis thing ... he graduated last June!

Doda- I too have a depper with senioritis! He heads to BC on Sept 28. He does not turn 18 until June so this was difficult for me at first. After BC he heads to Pensacola for A school. It is alot to take in when you have had no experience with the military. (Grandfather was in the Navy years ago) We have two daughters, 1 in college and 1 in high school. N4M has been a helpful source of information so far. Take care.
