Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Mamabearkk, Did your son like being in the 900 div.. I'm asking you this because John was in Sea Cadets colorguard/Drum and Bugle corp in HS and was thinking he might like try out for the colorguard or the flags at BC. How do they get into that if there interested? Do they ask them?

JB's Mom Cori ~ I think we were really fortunate last November. PIR weekend was a bit chilly...but we had sunshine. Not the norm...I expected colder and damper. We were lucky! : ) ~ kk

The mom of john n. and mom ~ Since I also live near one of the great lakes...it can vary. He will be there from September through November...so 60s low 70s to start...moving toward the 40s or 30s. 11/09 had a few flakes...but we had great weather by the time we got there. You see, if we do not like the weather up north, we just wait a minute and it changes. LOL My first baby was a South Florida baby. John will not freeze as his training is mostly indoors. He will actually be very happy to see the sky come PIR weekend. Not all divisions are male/female mix. Some are strictly male divisions. As far as I know the 900 series divisions have been mixed divisions. If you would like to, send me a friend request. : ) ~ kk

Hi, Mamabear Johns mom here.Thats funny about thse snow flakes. We're from florida and John has never seen snow!! Hes got that thin Florida blood too,he's going to freeze his _____off!! How cold does it get in GL in Sept. and Oct.?So, John could possibly be in same Div.and ship as Linda's daughter who ships sept. 15TH?

John of john n. and mom Yep! You will not know your PIR date until you send that official form letter home from GL RTC. Boot camp (currently) is 7.5 to 9 weeks long. My son was in a 900 series division. He was the first one in the division on a Tuesday and had to be the alpha male until the division was full (44 females and 44 males) on Friday. My son was also a September SR. Once you are at BC you will have watch duties. The SRs dread 11/1, as part of the watch duties are; "Look up - see snow flakes - when they hit the ground shovel them up!" hahaha : ) ~ kk

How is everyone doing? Just wondering how things are going on your end. Diego is doing well with his recuiter and the DEP meetings. They are going to play Paintball next week instead of staying in the office. They will have an awesome time, Diego has played for many years and loves it!

John, until you division up you will not know when your PIR date will be. When you get to bootcamp it could take up to another week after you arrive to be placed in a division. Example: my daughter and her friend (from different parts of the state) went to BC the same week. One arrived on Monday and the other on Wednesday. While her friend divisioned up the day she arrived, my daughter ended up waiting an additional 6 days for her division to fill up. Just bad luck but she ended up in the PIR the week before we went. So until you send the letter home with the information to your family, you won't know your Div.#, Ship# or PIR date. You can guess but that is all it will be. Hope that is helpful and not discouraging.
