Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hi, everyone. My son (only child) left for RTC September 4th. I got a wonderful call from him while he was waiting to fly out and then the standard scripted "I have arrived safely" call which really lifted my spirits......so now I am in the "waiting for the box and form letter" phase :/ I am bursting with pride but I can feel myself getting lonely for him again. This gets easier, right??

My son leaves in a week for Great Lakes and we are getting our last licks with him. Today he is driving a 26' Uhaul for his parents from NJ to Florida (in 2 days) as we are relocating (empty nesters ). Though not the youngest, he will be the last and he has been ready for months. I am very proud and happy he has found a calling but we are sure going to miss his strong arms, especially when it is time to unpack in FL and he is in boot camp!  We look forward to making our plans to visit both our sons in November for graduation (the other lives in Chicago).  God bless all your recruits/sailors.

Yeah nothing hit me until he left. I was happy for him and thought he made a great decision. Then they came and got him and now he is gone. That's when it hit. That's when I fell apart. I didn't think it was going to upset me. I was wrong.

http://navyformoms.com/profile/td1it3 mine ships out on the 23rd, I helped him pack his room last night and I handled it much better than I thought I would. He is 20 and has been sucked into the stagnant life for 2 years, I am SO excited that he has decided to join the NAVY. Best wishes to you and your recruit.

My heads out on the 24th. I've moved past the sadness and now I'm just excited for him. He just turned 18 in August, so he's looking forward to his first job and being able to make his own money.  Plus he sees the stagnation of his friends and doesn't want to be sucked into that.  We are leaving on Thursday for our family vacation to the Keys and I think it's going to be a blast, just to have that insulated bubble to ourselves for a few days.  Now just to make sure he doesn't get sunburnt or anything like that.  LOL  I am fiercly proud of him and can't wait to see him take his oath :)

The default Privacy Setting on N4M is "Anyone." That means that ANYONE with access to the web has access to everything on your My Page. To change that, make change number 3 at the bottom of OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile), While you are there, read the Page and see if there are other changes you need to make. Many of your profile pics contain your future Sailor, which is not  good idea, so make change 4. Many of your User names contain your last name, so make changes 1 and 2.

My son leaves on the 16th to fly to Great Lakes. He just graduated high school in May, turned 18 last month and now off to start his career in nuc engineering. He's my oldest so there are so many emotions that I've never had to deal with. I'll be praying for all of you and your children. God Speed!

My son left to BC on Thursday and arrived at GL late that night. Called me to tell me he arrived safe. Now it's a waiting game for the next phone call.
He's my first child to leave the house and I was devasted. I've been very emotional since a week before he left and got worse when my husband and I took him to MEPS then watched him get on that bus. I felt helpless! It's the worst feeling in the world and only certain moms know the feeling. People expected me to be the tough mom who wouldn't cry because I'm a Deputy Sheriff but that's not the case, I'm human too. It was very hard to concentrate on my job the first few days but I feel better now that I've joined support groups. Thank you everyone for keeping me sane :-)
