Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

If your future Sailor has yet to ship, be sure to check out the discussion, Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for....

If you have not yet joined Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones), now is a good time to do so (especially if you have a recruit at the RTC) and to begin checking out the Pages (found under the pictures of the Members) starting with OPSEC and PERSEC (Making Changes to Your Profile) (some of you have changes that you need to make--at least change 3) and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

@ Miss Conception Thank you for sharing your personal experience of your 1st day in bootcamp!  It did my heart good. Your mention of the RDC's trying to help you guys cross the street being "like herding 180 cats" Really cracked me up!  I can envision that so clearly...and see my son in the crowd :-) Thank you for making me smile this morning and thank you for your service!

He is my first to leave home. He lived at home while he was going to college last year. I know it is going to be really hard, harder than I think it will be. I have to go to work the next day so I am hoping that will keep me preoccupied a few hours a day and that I won't be crying the whole day. I hope it gets easier for you. I have read that most people say it gets easier after the first week. Here is hoping for all of us. :)

I have 10 days till we drop my son off. It is getting harder and harder to hold it together when someone at school asks about my son. I am so proud of what he is doing and I know he is ready but I am the one that is not ready to let him go.

My son leaves on the 23rd and although we are all as proud as ever and he is excited that the day is within sight, it hit me hard this week and I feel as though my heart is being ripped from my chest.

Thank you Miss Conception, it is nice to hear from a mom who have been in the same situation as my daughter right now.  She left on the 2nd and finding myself crying more today than yesterday.  I just miss her so much.

Thank you Miss Conception it helps to have an idea of where he may be in the process....

My son left for bootcamp yesterday. I am in a-school myself, right now, so I was able to watch him swear in over FaceTime. It was really awful not to be there to see him off, but we texted all day. I was in the compound when he arrived and my ex missed his call :(
But, having just gone through it, I remember the hardest part about the first day was that you stay awake until tonight. So, they will have been up overnight getting their clothes, drug tests were quite a production, hair cuts this morning, briefs about security clearances, moment of truth...I think, by now, they are probably stenciling all of their new gear.
Last night, while I was in class, everyone knew my son was leaving today, and we were remembering that first day in boot camp. One guy could recite word for word the video of captain dye that was shown while we waited in line for hair cuts. It was really funny all the different ways people perceived things while they were there.
I can say, as a mother, the first couple of weeks there is a lot of yelling, but at the same time a lot of coddling. I'll never forget our march from the pearl to our permanent "ship". Our poor RDC's were screaming because we didn't know how to march and it was in an effort to make sure all the safety measures were in place before we crossed the street. I laughed the whole time because it was like herding 180 cats.
They are in good and caring hands, believe it or not. I knew what was going on the whole time, and it made me very comfortable to send my son there.
