OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones) Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc.Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

I received his box yesterday with all his clothing and belongings he left with. That was so hard to open. Just got his address today from his recruiter and sent off my first letter. It's been really hard to deal with the fact that he's not home. That I can't tell him good night and hug him every morning. I'm trying my hardest to be strong for my 10 year old daughter, whom idolizes her big brother. I did get his DIV #. Dose anyone know when to expect the info for graduation?

Comment by ALNavyMom on September 12, 2013 at 3:32pm: Just talked to my son who is leaving 9/23. He had his last PST today. His recruiter said he has heard recently they are letting new Recruits keep their cell phones at RTC. Anyone know if that's accurate? Still sending calling card!:)

When you email this guy sends 8 PIN numbers and asks that your Recruit keep 6 and share the other two with someone who doesn't have one. I had to explain what a calling card was and how to use it...Never thought about that he's never used a land line or dialed a long distance number...

Also, if you have a local American Legion Post, you can send them the name and address of a recruit to have them "adopted". If your Recruit tells you of some that do not have family and/or do not get mail, please contact someone. There are a lot of groups doing this now.

Comment by teresa on September 12, 2013 at 1:28pm: my daughter flew out September 10th from Boise Idaho or only two of them fly in that I know of when she got Chicago she didn't call me and I didn't realize are over 300 recruits there at Chicago I miss her still she been gone for days and it still been rough feel guilty watching TV shows we use to watch together I'm listening to the radio today it's still a little hard but I'm doing that but yeah its its a horrible feeling this feeling this should be good I'm proud of her I miss the living daylights out over clean your bedroom later bed for the clothes away trying to stay busy but it is still hard you think about him all the time

My son had a calendar and address book filled with addresses of his friends and birthdays. I also purchased calling cards for him at safeway, and put them in his wallet, gave him a few photos that were placed inside of the calendar. and a few strategically placed notes from his father (my ex) and I that we had written and sealed for him.

My son says he does not have my address memorized and he'll just wait for his dad to respond to his first letter and get my address that way (sounds like bull to me) I'm afraid that I'll never get any information at all once he goes to bootcamp... seriously, this thought terrifies me. I start crying just thinking about it. If he is allowed to take a address book, I was thinking about putting together a "pre-bootcamp care package" with an address book, pre-addressed and stamped envelopes and calling cards.

She was so tried from lack of sleep, and her stomach was bothering her before she left. She did tell me that there were over 350 other recruits at the airport in Chicago waiting to leave for BC, and only 3 others flew out with her from Spokane, WA
