Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of September (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have September ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in September, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Navy Mom RI, That puts your son in the Thanksgiving TG, so join the group, PIR 11/21/2012 TG 02 – 11 Divisions (009-018 & 902). Go to http://bootcamp.navy.mil/contact_recruit.asp and double-check or get the address.

Since your Recruit is in a performing division, you may also want to join the Group, 900's division sailors. There will be information on there that relates to your situation. Here is a site I found that explains about 900 Divisions, The Requirements for the Navy RTC 900 Division

There are 3 types of 900 divisions. There are the Band/Bluejacket Choir/Drill team, otherwise known as Triple Threat (the musicians, singers, and drill team), the Sticks (those who carry the state flags), and the Ship Staff/Honor Guard (the body snatchers, those who guard various things...). Three 900 divisions perform their duties at each PIR, the 900 division(s) from that TG and if needed one to three 900 divisions from the next one or two TG's. Each 900 Division performs in their own PIR and in the PIR for one or two TGs ahead of their own. They may also have performances in the community--that happens mainly for the Triple Threat though. I believe that Division 902 is Sticks/Flags.

Sticks/Flags does an incredible march perfectly timed and executed to the drum corps cadence. It is their job to present the flags for every state in the union. They are lined up by height, so the flow looks better, so your recruit will probably not get to carry their home state flag. They also honor those who have gone before by presenting the POW and MIA flags, as well as the US flag.

Watch the RTC’s fB page beginning 2 weeks before your SR’s PIR and you may catch a glimpse of your SR.

ProudNavyMom12: I completely understand. My SR got there on the 26th, I live 50 miles south of Great Lakes and I have gotten nothing yet either. I was told not to worry. I haven't even gotten my Kid in a Box yet. They do things on their own time. Plus, even if you have the info, they still have to train the recruits on mail, so it's not like the letters being sent today will be there any sooner than what you may send tomorrow. I understand, I'm freaking out too. Don't worry too much.

Comment by lemonelephant on October 4, 2012 at 9:26pm

proudnavymom12, not every receruiter is willing/able to access the information.  Sometimes that information is available within 48 hours of the recruit's arrival at the RTC and sometimes it is later, which happens more for those who arrive at the end of the week as your recuit did.  If your SR has not been assigned to a ship/division yet for some reason, then that information is not in the computer since he would be in P-Holding.

SINGING SAILOR MOM! My son is on Ship 13 Div 016 too!!!!  and yes, PIR is on the 21st of NOV. because of the Holiday.  please write me! maybe our SR's know each other. :-)

proudnavymom12 - It takes time to fill a division.  As soon as one is filled, they send out the form letter.  Be patient, it will come.

I do not understand why everyone else can call there son/daughter recruiter and get the div/ship number but when my husband called yesterday they said they did not have it and that he had not been assigned to a division yet. He arrived GL 9/27 and I received the "kid in the box" Tuesday and we live hour and a half from GL so I do not understand what the hold up is! I am getting nervous!
