Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Bird Mom1, your SR is fine. If he weren't, you would receive a call and that is not a call you want to receive. Remember, "No news is good news!" See the info in . Arrival and What Happens at the RTC within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) to let you know what is happening.

Question, Is the MA Badge worn on the left or right side of the uniform? Every law enforcement agency I have ever seen wears their badge of the left side of the uniform but I have also seen MA's wear the badge on the right side. Which is correct?

Good Morning!

Thank you for the information lemonelephant.  I am still waiting on his box and letter.  It will be a week tomorrow that he has left!  It is so hard waiting and not knowing what he is doing and if he is ok, especially after seeing him and talking to him daily since then.   I am looking forward to knowing his PIR date, so that I can make my reservations and have something to look forward to.

Bird Mom1, you can mail him a phone card (or the free ones from CallsforRecruits@gmail.com) when you have his address. See Phone Cards and Phone Calls within Boot Camp Moms (and loved ones) for more on that. I invite you again to join that group.

If you go on to the great lakes BC site it should have an address but not what division he's in. the box should come first. Takes about a week or two. That site will tell you what each week looks like and you will meet other parents from your sons class. This is helpful as other parents are going through the same thing you are. Figure on eight to nine Weeks for bc. If he is not delayed. The ladies who run that page are a wealth of information.

Good Morning!!

Thank you for the information.  I am waiting very anxiously for his "letter" and PIR date so that I can book a lodge.  Not talking to him is soooooo frustrating.  Wednesday will be one week only :(      Can I mail him a phone card with my first couple letters? or should I wait until he gets out of BC and I see him on his PIR date to give it to him.

Hi, my son just completed boot camp and is scheduled to graduate A school on Friday. BC is hard, I think hardest on us parents because of not hearing from them. I can say your sailor may get home sick and when they call keep upbeat. They will be fine and when they graduate and you ask him would you do it again? The answer will be yes. Every day is a new challenge for you and your sailor, it's hard and both of you will be stronger and improved from the experience. Good luck and keep us posted on how everything is going. :)

Bird Mom1, yes, once your Sailor gets to Lackland, he will be able to call you when he is not in class or on duty. Once P-days are over at BC, your SR will average about 7 hours of sleep, sometimes more sometimes less.  At Lackland, your Sailor will determine his bedtime to some degree unless he has watch or other duties in the evening, so he will be able to get in 8 hours or more most nights. He will most likely share a room with one or two other Sailors, so that will have some effect on that.
