What airport in San Antonio do they fly into from Great Lakes?
When my daughter arrived at Lackland, her roommate had been there for some time. This other gal played her music loudly, at any time, day or night, and really did not interact with my duaghter, which was tough for her. When this other young woman graduated a few weeks ago, my daughter was so happy. Now she could spend her time in her room ENJOYING the room, not HIDING from the noise! It does get better. Now she will be graduating at the end of this week, and will come home to get married, then head on to her duty station in Washington. These kids just need to develop a little tougher skin sometimes. It stinks, but not everyone is going to be a good roommate fit. Sometimes it helps for them to remember that A school is only a short time period, not forever.
Thank you Sandra, that is good to hear. I know things will get better for him once his school starts. We just feel a bad for him, he sounds a little depressed when he calls and we can't do anything more than just encourage him and tell him to hang in there. The roommates situations makes it tough for him right now.
Mike803 - tell your son to hang in there. My son was also delayed about two weeks before he classed up. He was really frustrated because he didn't volunteer, he was "voluntold". He had to watch friends start their classes while he had to wait around. Sounds like my son was luckier in the roommate dept. His original roommate was just graduating and completely gave him great guidlines and information. He then got two new roommates and they all really get along well.
My son's spirits really picked up as soon as classes started. He's seemed to really formed some close friendships. They go paintballing, tour the City (when allowed) and help each other study. He's now getting ready to graduate next week and he's really looking foward to moving on with the next step. So tell your sailor it does get better. I know from listening to my son that it's really frustrating until he gets to class up....but it does get better.
My son at now at Lackland AFB waiting for his MA School to form up. He was told June 10th but, due to some variables, that is not a certain date. As parents, we have told him all through Boot Camp that, once he got to Texas, things would be better for him. Perhaps that will finally be the case once his A school begins but, for now, he is not exactly a happy camper. He is sharing a room with two other sailors that have apparently been there for a few weeks and who do not seem to be interested in being very helpful or friendly. There is one bathroom for six and at times, there is no toilet paper. All in all, not the most ideal conditions. He seems a little bit depressed but they may also be due to the fact that they are now just sort of killing time waiting for A school to finally start. I wonder if other MA parents are getting similar information from their sailors.
That is great. I know it will be several weeks & he will let us know. The little bit of time with him this weekend went by so fast. He also was so tired he didn't really feel like doing much. We are looking forward to a weekend with him.
