Hello
We look forward to hearing about your sailors journey. How he/she likes being an MAA (MA) and which kind of job they are doing and how you are doing knowing what your sailor does for a living.
NOTE: Please help keep our sailors safe. Don't give out exact locations.Example: If he/she is in Iraq you can say Iraq but I would not say the name of the camp or a town near the camp. If they are on a ship don't give the last known location. Although some of that is public we don't in anyway want to jeopardize them.

Our son just got to SA Sat and so far loves the base & of course the extra freedom for a couple of days. He is waiting to class up but doesn't think it will be long. There were 50 of them that arrived Sat & 10 were already waiting. We are looking forward to visiting him in a few weeks.

lynne, I'm glad to help. I didn't think to give you the Rating Information Card last night. It can be found at https://www.cool.navy.mil/enlisted/rating_info_cards/ma.pdf. It indicates 9 weeks, but "A" School is 7 weeks after classing up. Some are in Holding a week or 2 before classing up, seldom longer than that though. You must be looking at an old Fact Sheet if you see all 3 places--a very old one since they closed VA in the fall of 2008 and GA sometime before that.

lynne, "A" School for MA's is only at NTTC Lackland (San Antonio) now. Break down week by week within San Antonio MA's will tell you how things work. I invite you to join that group while you are there.

So is schooling back to back? I see it says Tx, Va, and Ga for schooling and not really sure if that means the sailors go to all three places right in a row before getting stationed some where. Thanks for any info or help

Happy Mother's Day!  I hope that you heard from your Sailors today. I heard from both of my children today. They may be far away, but they are always close at heart.

tbaby90, yes, your MA will have overseas duty that will count as sea duty. Join San Antonio MA's; there is a "Break down week by week" discussion that will let you know what happens at NTTC Lackland (San Antonio).

Hey!

my husband will be starting "A" school soon for MA

I am just wondering, since MAA do not go on the ship often. Is it guarenteed that they will be stationed overseas for their sea duty?

Also, if they get deployed, but not on a ship, will that count as their "sea rotation"

thanks! hope someone here can help :)

Nancy Cooper's Mom- My husband said pretty much what you said, that the Navy could do the finishing work on our little work in progress! The best friend he made in Greece has been in for 3+ years and he is a good influence, I'm grateful to him. I hope others hold him accountable and don't let him get away with anything either! I'm waiting for him to conform, to let go of his stubbornness. Sounds like he'll get there soon from what you say.

chriscwick- My son's academic were pathetic in high school, he barely graduated. So when he did so well on the asvab the look on his recruiters face was priceless. It just proved my point that he had the brains all along in school, he just didn't try. I hope my son finds his niche. My son says the same thing about some people not liking MA's. I'm proud as a mom can be that he's in the Navy, but to know he is proud of himself as well, and happy, is my wish for him. Your son's determinattion and drive are admirable, I hope my son has some hidden somewhere in him! (I like the biped Malinois reference.)

Thank you ladies, I will sleep better tonight!
